(VFL WOLFSBURG)

READ MORE ABOUT THE ARGENTINE MIDFIELDER, WHO HAS
WON BOTH THE UNDER 20 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AND THE
2004 OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL. AND OF COURSE THREE ARGENTINE
CLAUSURA CHAMPIONSHIP WITH RIVER PLATE.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ANDRES D'ALESSANDRO - THE NEW PORTSMOUTH MIDFIELDER

Andres Nicolas D'Alessandro was born on April 15, 1981 in La Paternal (BA), Argentina. The charismatic midfielder is only 24, but has already a decent record. In 2001 he won with Argentina the Under 20 World Championships in Buenos Aires and in 2004 he was member of an Argentine team, which won team Gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Summer Games in Athens, Greece.
Furthermore he has won the Argentine clausura league championship three times with his first
club, River Plate.

RIVER PLATE. Andres D'Alessandro started to play football at the age of four and after he joined the football school by his father, he soon joinded the River Plate youth side. Today he declares that the title with River together with his move to Europe to be his greatest success. And indeed soon after he joined the first team of River in 2000 - at the age of 19 - he was member of a team, which won the 2000 Clausura league championship. D'Alessandro was represented in 2 games that year. 2001 he played 3 games in the Apertura and scored 6 goals in 18 games in the Clausura Championship. River finished both the Apertura (behind rivals Boca Juniors) and the Clausura championship (behind San Lorenz but ahead of Boca) in second position. It was also no good
year for River in the international competition as they also lost again in the Quarterfinal (as in 2000 against Boca 2-4) of the Copa Libertadores to Mexican side Cruz Azul (0-3).

2002 and 2003 worked out to be better years. River won again the Clausura championship in both years. D'Alessandro played in total 31 games and scored 8 goals within the 2002 championships for River. 2003 Andres D'Alessandro played 16 games and scored 6 goals, including one in the Superclassico against Boca at La Bombonera. (read more on these games on the next page). Also 2003 River was eliminated in the Quarterfinal against Colombian side America Cali (3-5).

At River D'Alessandro played with countless international stars like Paraguayan international defender Celso Ayala, Spartak Moscow striker Fernando Cavenaghi, FC Bayern midfielder
Martin Demichelis, former Monaco and Sevilla midfielder Marcello Gallardo, former Argentine
international midfielder Claudio Hussain, Barcelona midfielder Maximilliano Lopez, later VfL
Wolfsburg teammate Juan Carlos Menseguez, former Lazio, Juventus striker and Chilean international striker Marcelo Salas, former Arsenal and Inter Milan defender Nelson Vivas,
former Real Madrid and todays Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso, former Juventus and Atletico Madrid striker Juan Esnaider, former Juventus, Roma,Napoli and Uruguayan international striker Daniel Fonseca, Racing Club MDP midfielder Cristian Raul Ledesma, former Barcelona keeper Roberto Bonano, former Sampdoria and Argentine international striker Ariel Ortega,
former FC Barcelona and todays on-loan Sevilla striker Javier Saviola and PSG defender Mario Yepes.

shame we couldnt keep hold of him, he wanted way over 30k a week and that wouldve triggered clauses in existing players' contracts

Early contender for ridiculous rumour of the summer (this year's Xabi Alonso to Villa???), apparently in an exclusive by bullshitter Mark Storey in The News we've bid £12m for Defoe
