Hmmm, is this a sign of things for future tournaments? First a terrible penalty kick shootout in the 2011 World Cup, and now a third-place finish at the Algarve Cup? Things aren't looking so swell for the USA women's football team...

They did finally manage to beat Sweden, however, after four tries in a row:

Sweden 2-1 USA at Four Nations Tournament in China January 2011
Sweden 2-1 USA at the World Cup last year
Sweden 1-1 USA in Glendale Arizona Nov. 19, 2011

Meanwhile Japan showed that the WC win was no fluke. How many years has it been since anyone scored 3 goals on Germany?

Yeah, Sweden have been a very tough match-up for USA in women's football, for a reason I am not sure how to explain very well. And yeah, Japan have been great just for women's football overall - they have shown a team from Asia can finally take the World Cup home. Anyways, I was kind of wondering, since it's International Women's Day, are there any matches/friendlies going on in women's national football today?
