DEMETRIO ALBERTINI is the latest name to be linked with a transfer to Fulham following the arrival at Craven Cottage of Milan legend Franco Baresi.

The Cottagers unveiled Baresi as their director of football last week, and part of his brief is to line up fresh faces for Fulham.

Baresi is a former Rossoneri team-mate of Albertini and his close links with the Milan giants could facilitate a summer swoop.

Albertini, who has spent his entire career at Giuseppe Meazza aside from a loan spell at Padova, could be squeezed out of the Milan engine room next season.

With Massimo Ambrosini and Fernando Redondo due back from injuries and Rui Costa also at Carlo Ancelotti's disposal, there will be fierce competition for a place in midfield.

Italian international Albertini has endured a disappointing season on the club front, slipping below his usual standard.

The 30-year-old's campaign also suffered a further turn for the worse when he was ruled out of the World Cup with a damaged Achilles.

If Fulham do declare a firm interest in the experienced midfielder, Albertini could be tempted by the prospect of football in The Premiership.
