Adriano Does It Again As Fiorentina Snatch Late Draw

01/20/2002. Fiorentina have in Adriano a great saviour in their bid to escape relegation to Serie B. The giant Brazilian got a great equalizer after an equally great pass from Ezequiel Gonzales two minutes from time.

Earlier in the second half, Jose Mari proved he was going through a spell of good form as he headed Milan in front.

The Rossoneri should have clinched a second after a dubious penalty awarded by referee Paparesta was missed by Shevchenko, who has not scored in weeks.

Pivotal was Gennaro Gattuso's absurd sending off after a daft handball. He was booked for dissent in the first half and did not learn from his mistakes.

In the first half, AC Milan and Fiorentina started the game well, with Adriano getting the best chances mostly from Angelo Di Livio's great crosses and Domenico Morfeo's runs. The skilled Brazilian could have been rewarded with a penalty on 6 minutes but the ref turned away.

The Rossoneri slowly emerged to create their own chances. But they were made to wait deep until 30 minutes when Shevchenko woke up and fired four shots and headers. They all came over or wide but were a warning Fiorentina had to take into account.

Fiorentina slowly faded and left ball possession to Milan. The Viola could have been dangerous on the break, but failed to capitalize on Adriano's great technique or Morfeo's flair.
