--------------------------------------------------------------------

Inexperienced Scottish manager was a surprise announcement as the new Aberdeen manager, with fans questioning why someone more experienced wasn't brought in. But McHaggis said he was confident he will soon win the fans over. Good pre season results was a required start and was just what he got, with 4 wins out of 4 and only 1 goal conceeded, so Aberdeen are full of confidence going into the league campaign.

The sale of highly rated youngster Zander Diamond too Man City was a disappointment, but an offer of that sort of money could not be turned down.

McHaggis looks too prefer a 3-5-2 formation, forwards Stevie Crawford and Steve Lovell, andmidfielder Scott Severin, have been labelled as the key players.

Right I'll be updating monthly, so I can put full concentration into the game for each month.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Matches (Aberdeen score always 1st)

League H Dundee Utd 2-0 (Lovell, Dempsey)
League A Falkirk 1-2 (Lovell)
League H Hearts 1-2 (Dempsey)
League A Rangers 0-3
Lge Cup A Forfar 3-0 (Canabal (2), Nicholson)
League H Kilmarnock 4-0 (Lovell (2), Crawford, Nicholson)

Transfers

IN

Alin Stoica - Free
Per Nilsson - £170 000 - Odd Grenland

OUT

Mark Thomas - Loan - Brechin

Donald McHaggis said he was very happy with his 2 signings, it took a while to get them here, but both safely arrived before the transfer window closed. He said Romanain international Alin Stoica is a good player who can give us something on either side of the midfield. On Per Nilsson, he said he was a good defender or midfielder, who is still young, and can have a bright future.

Round up.

6 points from the first 5 games is ok, but could have been better, as Falkirk should really have been beaten, Aberdeen end the month in 6th place in the league, the foundations have been set, now they must push forward, the superb 4-0 win too end the month suggests they can do this.

Matches

League A Dunfermline 0-1
League H Inverness 3-0 (Lovell (2), Dempsey)
Lge Cup A Dunfermline 2-1 (Canabal, Nicholson)
League A Hibernian 1-2 (Lovell)

League Cup Quarter Final draw - Home against Livingston.

September was a mixed month for Aberdeen, 2 wins and 2 defeats, only 3 league points though, but they will be very happy with progress in the league cup and a chance at some silverware.

Manager Donald McHaggis, publicly said he was frustrated with the high number of injuries sustained during the month, saying this hampered the teams progress, but the team had still done well. Aberdeen are lying in mid table and the season could still go either way, a string of good or bad results could push them towards the top or bottom.

Out of the new signings Per Nilsson most impressed with some fine performances throughout the month.

October Matches

League A Livingston 0-2
League A Motherwell 2-0 (Canabal, Dempsey (pen))
League H Celtic 1-2 (Nicholson (pen))
League A Dundee Utd 2-3 (Stoica, Canabal)

A disappointing month for Aberdeen only picking up 3 points from 1 win, leaving them 9 th in the table. The board seem happy with the managers performance, but the fans aren't so convinced.

Also news that midfield star Scott Severin wants away from the club, has not been recieved well, but manager McHaggis, has said he doesn't plan on selling the player any time soon.

It's still early in the season, but McHaggis went on record in saying he wants at least a top 6 finish this season, and too achieve that the Dons will have too, start picking up more points, too many times have they played well but lost as was the case against Celtic and Dundee Utd, more of the good attacking play coupled with a solid defence that was seen against Motherwell is needed.

November Matches

League H Falkirk 1-1 (Canabal)
Lge Cup H Livingston 1-0 (Canabal)
League A Hearts 0-3
League H Rangers 0-1

A bad month in the league, 1 point at home to lowly Falkirk, all the Dons have too sow for it, the narrow defeat by Rangers was a good effort, that was needed after what Donald McHaggis described as a diabolical performance against Hearts, where they were 3 goals down by half time. On the bright side the win over Livingston saw them progress to the semi final of the league cup where they will play Dundee United. Celtic will play Rangers in the other semi final.

McHaggis hasn't made the best of starts, but a cup final would be a start, he may also look to stregthen the squad when he is able to,as there is no doubt his 3 signings have been hits, and amongst the best players for the Dons this season, and it is reported he could have over £1 million too spend.

December Matches

League H Dunfermline 2-0 (Canabal, Foster)
League A Kilmarnock 2-3 (Crawford, Canabal)
League H Livingston 0-0
League A Inverness 1-1 (Canabal)

5 points from this months fixtures is a better return, but given the quality of oppsoition played, it maybe should have been better. It started well with a 2-0 win, but 2-0 down at half time too Kilmarnock, it looked like another win would be followed by defeat, but Crawford and Canabal goals pulled it back too 2 each, before sloppy defending undid all the hard work and the game was lost, the 0-0 bore draw at Livingston, was a poor game, which neither side deserved too win, and after going 1-0 down, Aberdeen had too e fairly happy with the draw away at Inverness.

Spanish striker Manuel Canabal, reached the milestone of 10 goals for the season, before the turn over the year, whch is a great achievement, the Spaniard has proved a great success even in an under performing Aberdeen side.

It is believed that Aberdeen and Southampton have agreed on a deal for Swedish defender Michael Svensson, the fee is not yet known, and the deal will go through when the transfer window re opens in January.

Aberdeen scouts have also been spotted in Derby, where they are believed to be looking at a couple of out of favour Derby players, one of which is believed too be midfielder Adam Bolder.

January Matches

League H Hiberbian 2-1 (Crawford, Nicholson)
Cup H Hearts 0-2
League A Celtic 0-4
League H Motherwell 2-2 (Canabal(2) )
League H Dundee U 3-0 (Canabal, Nicholson, Mackie)

The month started and finished well for Aberdeen, but was not so good in between. Aberdeen manager Donald McHaggis said there's a lack of belief in the players, that they have the ability too beat the top sides, which needs to be put right, the 3-0 thrashing of high flying Dundee United at the end of the month, could be a sign of this being put right. And with the first game in February also against Dundee Untied, in the semi final of the league cup, this was an important confidence booster for the Dons, as they go into what is there biggest game of the season so far. McHaggis will be relieved as well, as the pressure was building following the poor display at Celtic.

Transfers In

Michael Svensson from Southampton £1.2 million
Adam Bolder from Derby £85k
Alan Archibald from Dundee Utd £60k

Transfers Out

Richie Byrne too Celtic £500k

Three players we're brought in, in January with 1 player going out, with Richie Byrne going to Celtic, Michael Svensson and Alan Archibald were brought in too strengthen the defence, Svensson imediately impressing.

Adam Bolder was also brought in from Derby County too toughen up the midfield, according too manager Donald McHaggis.

League Cup semi final special report ;)

Aberdeen 2-1 Dundee United

This game would be a defining moment in the Dons season, and after going a goal down after only 5 minutes, Donald McHaggis had a worried look on his face, but he need not have been worried, as on the half hour mark, Adam Bolder grabbed his first goal in a Aberdeen shirt, which capped of what was a superb display, answering the critics who questioned why he had been signed.

It was another successful McHaggis signing who grabbed the winner, spanish striker Manuel Canabal grabbing the winner in the 73rd minute, much too the delight of the Aberdeen fans, who have not enjoyed the best of seasons thus far.

After the match Mchaggis had this too say,

"I'm delighted too be reaching a cup final in my first season, we've not picked up as many points aswe'd have liked in the league, but I fell we've been unlucky in some instances, and am sure we can still get a top 6 finish, we'll enjoy this moment, and the final when it comes, but we'll keep working hard to improve the league form, too turn this into a good season."

Spanish striker Canabal with a interpreter, said he was enjoying his football in Scotland, and can't wait too play in the final.

March Matches

League A Dunfermline 0-1 (Svensson sent off)
League H Kilmarnock 2-5 (Dempsey, Crawford)
League A Livingston 0-0
League H Inverness 2-0 (Lovell, Nicholson (pen) )
League A Hibernian 2-2 (Lovell, Canabal)

League Cup Final

Aberdeen 1-2 Celtic

Steve Lovell gave the Dons an early lead in the final, but 2 errors by Michael Svensson, gave Celtic the lead before half time, Celtic then dominated the 2nd half as they had much of the first, Stevie Crawford had a great chance too level it with minutes too go, but blasted over. Celtic we're just too strong, but it was a good effort from the Aberdeen players who performed at a much higher standard than they had in recent league matches.

Too those league matches, 1 point from a goalless draw from the first 3 matches of the month, had the Aberdeen chairman publicly saying, things have to improve quickly, heaping the pressure on Dons boss McHaggis. A good win against an in form Inverness side, and a good draw awat at Hibernian, saw the month at least end with some positives.

April Matches

League H Celtic 2-0 (Bolder, Hart)
League A Motherwell 2-1 (Lovell(2) )
League A Kilmarnock 5-1 (Crawford(4), Canabal)
League A Motherwell 2-1 (Lovell, Winter)
League H Livingston 2-0 (Anderson, Ciullo)
League H Inverness 0-0

Transfer - Francesco Ciullo - Free

Finally a very good month for Aberdeen, 5 straight wins finished off with a draw, that saw Donald McHaggis, pick up his first ever manager of the month award. Despite this good run, which stretches too 9 games unbeaten, Aberdeen are still only 7th on 49 points, with Dundee Utd 4th on 47 points. Due too the bizarre way the Scottish league splitss up for the last 5 games with the top 6 playing each other once and, and the bottom 6 playing each other once, Aberdeen we're 1 point behind 6th place Hibernian at the time of the splitt, Donald McHaggis had this too say on the situation.

"It's frustrating and odd too have more points than 3 teams that are above you, but that's the way it is, if we had found our form earlier it wouldn't have been a problem. Some might say if we we're playing in the top 6 group we wouldn't have got so many points, but the way we beat Celtic recently and the form we're in I'm sure we could have done"

Despite the impressive run, there is still a big question mark over McHaggis's future, with fans still not happy, and even the chairman criticising team performance's in recent week despite the great results, too which McHaggis responded, he thought was "remarkable" but refused too comment further.

Italian striker or winger Francesco Ciullo has proved another shrewd transfer, despite not being at a club all season, he has performed well for the Dons, making his debut against Celtic at the start of the month.

--------------------------------------------------

There is one more match left, too be played in May, following that will be the end of season report...I have this feeling I'm gonna get sacked :(

May Match

League A Falkirk 3-0 (Dempsey (pen), Crawford (2) )

Aberdeen finished the league campaign off in style with a comfortable win, over relegated Falkirk, Stevie Crawford put on a superb second half display, getting his 2 goals, Gary Dempsey gave the Dons the lead in the last minute of the 1st half from the penalty spot, other players such as Bolder and Ciullo impressed, ending the season on a high, and giving the fans hope next season will be a better one.

Final League Position - 7th

Pld Won Drw Lst For Ag G.D Pts
38 15 7 16 56 50 +6 52

So Aberdeen finished 7 th on 52 points and Dunfermline 4th on 49 points, leaving Donald McHaggis frustrated that his team couldn't find there form earlier. Haggis will also be happy to have had a trip too Hampden Park in his first season in charge, even though they lost the final.

It's not been a great season for the Dons, but nor has it been a disaterous one, some of McHaggis's signings have done well, such as Canabal, Ciullo, Bolder, Archibold and Svensson, and there are signs that there could be a promising future, but the Aberdeen fans are hard to please, and there is still a question mark over the future of the manager.

Alan Archibold was named as the left back in the premier division team of the year, and Ryan Esson was named as the substitute goalkeeper.

Manuel Canabal was the top scorer, with 16 goals, just beating Steve Lovell's 13, Stevie Crawford just broke the double figures mark as well, with 10 goals.
