Aaron Ramsey is to join Arsenal from FA Cup finalists Cardiff City in a £5m cash deal, BBC Sport understands.

Champions League winners Manchester United and Premier League giants Everton were also fighting to sign the 17-year-old Welsh wonderkid.

But Ramsey has chosen Arsenal after the Gunners flew him out to Switzerland for face-to-face talks with boss Arsene Wenger, who is at Euro 2008.

Unlike United, the Arsenal deal does not include a loan back option.

Ramsey, who has made just 22 appearance for the Championship side, is expected to have a medical at Arsenal's plush Hertfordshire training ground within the next 24 hours.

A Cardiff City statement read: "Cardiff City were informed on Friday morning that Aaron Ramsey's preferred destination this summer is the Emirates Stadium with Arsenal.

"We will now continue the dialogue with the Gunners with a view to Aaron's move being completed.

"The move, unlike other options, does not include a loan back period at Ninian Park for the 2008/09 season.

"We would like to wish Aaron every success in the top-flight."

He (Rambo) seems like such an affable young chap. Hope he never gets injured AGAIN!
great to see him back in training. don't need to rush him back
Sometimes when a player suffers such a serious injury then returns to the fold, in their mind they have a fear of such a thing happening again and so they play it more reserved and low-key to avoid that. But in that vid he looked so enthused just to be playing again and to join in contests, his running with the ball, etc. And the report said his contribution was OK in the time he played. Well done.
Shawcross :yuck: .

He should have returned from suspension this week -- the first time Ramsey has been involved in a football match.

Luckily for us Ramsey is a tough nut to crack mentally, he's already flying into tackles :proud: . I can't wait to have him in the line-up at the beginning of the year, we just need to stay as close to Chelsea and United as we can for now. I'd be confident of overtaking them down the stretch with a fit Cesc, Rambo and RvP.
Ramsey has joined Nottingham Forest on loan until January 3rd in order to gain match fitness and sharpness.

Sounds like a good move to me, only short-term and wouldn't have been expected to make an appearance for Arsenal until around that time anyway so he will come back better for it I think! Good decision. Should have done the same for JET though.
Great decision
good luck to him, get some fitness and first team action and we'll see him back in jan :).

hope he doesn't get injured in the championship though

Ramsey's move is ideal to get him some match fitness.
He can come back in January and play a big part for the Arsenal this season.

JET on the other hand will NEVER be a top premiership player, IMHO, so pointless puting him out on loan.

If he isn't going to play at Arsenal, then he might as well stay there and get regular games.
yes i think we should just leave him at forest until the summer- regular games is what he needs.

hope he can return to his best- because a times last season i was more excited about him than wilshere- he has everything in his game- great talent- just hope it is fulfiled.
I woke up thinking about this conundrum...

If Cesc stays for next season...How do you guys think Ramsey will fit into our system? Just before his injury, he seemed to be becoming a first team regular, will he be what Rosicky essentially is to us now; a rotation player? His quality suggests he should be more than that IMO.
Ramsey - Wilshere - Cesc

Wilshere is a DM, you know.
He's not a anchor man though. We need Song in there.
I think they will all rotate, Ramsey and Wilshere are still young and can be rotated based on their form. Wilshere won't be dominating every single match he plays like against Barcelona, he's bound to dip occasionally at such a young age, and likewise with Ramsey. They can both play similar roles. I'd say Ramsey is more of a Gerrard all-action type player than Wilshere's Spanish-style midfielder, but both can play the same role in the team.
Having 4 quality CMs is not exactly a bad thing especially since Cesc's hamstrings are liable to go at any time.

We play upwards of 50 games in a season. If you assume 53 games, that's 159 starting slots which averages out to roughly 40 per player and they'd all be doing well to play 40 games in a season.

Biggest thing for me is to get another DM though, Song is too important to this team.
Le Coq!

He's a first-team regular @ Lorient.
Why the name change Georgey :(
