Aaron Ramsey is to join Arsenal from FA Cup finalists Cardiff City in a £5m cash deal, BBC Sport understands.

Champions League winners Manchester United and Premier League giants Everton were also fighting to sign the 17-year-old Welsh wonderkid.

But Ramsey has chosen Arsenal after the Gunners flew him out to Switzerland for face-to-face talks with boss Arsene Wenger, who is at Euro 2008.

Unlike United, the Arsenal deal does not include a loan back option.

Ramsey, who has made just 22 appearance for the Championship side, is expected to have a medical at Arsenal's plush Hertfordshire training ground within the next 24 hours.

A Cardiff City statement read: "Cardiff City were informed on Friday morning that Aaron Ramsey's preferred destination this summer is the Emirates Stadium with Arsenal.

"We will now continue the dialogue with the Gunners with a view to Aaron's move being completed.

"The move, unlike other options, does not include a loan back period at Ninian Park for the 2008/09 season.

"We would like to wish Aaron every success in the top-flight."

This is hilarious.

A few days ago;

United even put a statement on their website on 3 June, announcing: "Manchester United is delighted to announce it has agreed terms with Cardiff City for the transfer of Aaron Ramsey subject to terms being agreed and the player passing a medical."

Cardiff made no secret of the fact they wanted Ramsey to join United so to take advantage of the loan-back agreement.

:howler:

United bid more AND Cardiff wanted him to join them as he'd be loaned straight back out to them - but the kid scrapped all that in favour of a move to Arsenal. Legend status already. :D

:howler: the Manure forum would be going mad.

The dimwit PB opened a thread 'I want Ramsey' ..the official site confirmed it and they asked PB to open more similar threads for all the players :dielaugh:

Villa might be coming to Arsenal soon now :lala:
the kid has a head in his shoulders.

I only saw him in the Cup Final and he looked a bit headless, hopefully that was a one off though, next season I want 25 goals from the lad.
United were arrogant in thier approach. Having confirmed that terms were agreed on their webiste, they got him to met Gill and Gary Neville, whilst Fergie spoke to him from his sun lounger in south France.

Arsenal put up Rowely and Friar and then flew him out to meet Wenger in person in Switzerland.

I hope he shines next season along with Diaby, Denilson, Cesc, Vela, Nasri, Walcott, Randall, Gibbs, and Lansbury. What a youthful and exciting midfield that could be.
yea to be frank, he was being only over hyped by Manure fans. I didn't see anything special from him yet.

Maybe it is an effort to increase some British players in the squad? :)

Ramsey snubs United

Cardiff City starlet Aaron Ramsey has decided to join Arsenal, snubbing offers from United and Everton.

The highly-rated 17-year-old midfielder met with all three clubs for talks after bids - believed to be around £5million - were accepted last week.

The Premier League and Champions League holders appeared to be in pole position to sign the talented young Welsh international, but Cardiff have since confirmed the teenager's future lies elsewhere.

"Cardiff City were informed on Friday morning that Aaron Ramsey’s preferred destination this summer is at the Emirates Stadium with Arsenal,” Cardiff's website confirmed.

"We will now continue the dialogue with the Gunners with a view to Aaron’s move being completed.

"The move, unlike other options, however, does not include a loan-back period at Ninian Park for the 2008/09 season."

can't see that, Wenger is a stubborn old goat, more likely to get less Brits than buckle to pressure from the idiot tabloids and braindead pundits.
5 million is quite an amount. I don't remember paying that much for our other youngsters bar Walcott.

There must be something special about him, which wasn't really obvious in the FA Cup final ;)
he looks good from what I have seen. Will of course need time but Im glad we signed him has real star potential
Ramsey himself said that he's an Arsenal fan, so thats why he snubbed United.
It might of helped that Arsenal flew him out to Switzerland to meet Wenger. Man Utd had him meet Gary Neville, cos Ferguson couldn't be arsed.

Hmm retarded Gary Neville... or genius Arsene Wenger? Hmmmm.

United gays, said he was Manure fan. Go figure what is true?

Well, I'm sure that I read somewhere in RAWK (liverpool forum) that he's an Arsenal fan, but his favorite player was Gerrard.
who the heck are RAWK? Ramsey's barbers? :pp

I am sure the RAWK guys would be saying there is some big site XT, they just mentioned that he is Manure fan :D
this is good that he wants to come to us but i wont believe it till it happens. samir nasri was supposed to sign 2 weeks ago lol but still hasnt, delay after delay makes me worried.
he will probably sign for Everton in the end, he's obviously a plastic scouser.
Are Wales now going to become a footballing superpower?

afterall they got the worldclass footballing prodigy Gareth Bale, teenage sensation Chris Gunter and now this Ramsey wonderkid. Time to bring back the home internationals too I say. They'd be great.
maybe, Cardiff have another couple of younger lads that are good as well, I watched their u18s play ours.
well if he's a figher, its just what we need. We've been sorely lacking grit apart from Flamini in the last few years.
