Only 3 points ahead the 2nd placed teams. This is simply a MUST WIN match. Trapattoni will use the same lineup for the 3rd consecutive time (it will be the first time it will happen this season).

--------------------Quim---------------------
-Miguel-----Luisão---------Rocha---Dos Santos-
--------------Petit-----M.Fernandes-----------
-Geovanni------Nuno Assis-----------Simão---
----------------Nuno Gomes------------------

-------------------Costinha-----------------------
-Laranjeiro---Renato----João Paulo---Alhandra(Edson)-
------------Paulo Gomes--Otacílio-----------------
-Fangueiro---------Caíco-----------Fábio Felício----
-------------------Krpan---------------------------

we really have to win, and i just hope the players enter the pitch with confidence ....i have to admit that last weekend i got pretty shaken myself, with the way we lost and the way sporting won :rollani:

to use a very worn out expression...its the time of truth and we have to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think he will play the same line up yes...but i have to say im pretty tired of nuno assis' consecutive bad performances...sometimes i wonder if it wouldnt be better to put karadas next to nuno from the start....assis has been a "dead weight" lately, he doesnt defend and he doesnt attack

It is called "the Zahovic virus". It's terrible because it has no cure.
LOL :howler:

the thing is nuno is younger than Za was and imo he could be benched....if we need someone fresh upfront towards the end of the game we can always play mantorras...or even nuno if the idea is to re-enforce the midfield....Trap has already been replacing nuno earlier and earlier...but imo its time to simpley let him off the starting line up

Even if many people can't see it, Benfica have built their own play style. Sporting have a different style, Braga have another and Rio Ave also have another. What I'm trying to say is that Trapattoni will hardly change that 4-2-3-1 pattern. I can guarantee you the way Benfica are going to play against Leiria. Great part of the first half will possible be to watch how the opponent stands on pitch, in a very patient approach. If we start with two centre-forwards together then we would lose some consistency in midfield. Benfica are a balanced and realistic team. If we play 4-4-2 we might score earlier, it's true. But our defence is not that strong and we could also concede some. I dislike the way our three attacking midfielders is playing but I agree with Trap as we need to keep the standard lineup.

sure, the problem is that if we stay all 1st half waiting patiently for the beginning of 2nd half, we can find ourselves short of time to score, like last week....not every week that we score in the 80tish min is it

I actually do not consider Nuno Assis as bad as Zahovic, though it's true, in Guimaraes he impressed more. As for us pressing in the first half, I too balieve that will happen, we'll just have to keep the faith that the necessary luck will return to us tomorrow. I'd like to see us win easily with 3 or 4 goals again, but I think that won't be the case given things are hotting up now. However, tomorrow is a must win and if the team plays as concentrated and as determined as the last weeks 3 points might be on the cards for us. Plus: I expect Sporting to struggle, after this week's UEFA-show having been run by them impressively.
Força Benfica!

1-1 lol
imo our best game this season, we totally massacrated leiria, and we end up getting the draw at 92m...and miss our last chance at the 94m...there is really no justice in football

HOLY SHIT! Costinha for National Squad Goalkeeper for god's sake!

AMAZING performance from the guy. Jesus ****ing christ. I don't even think Helton would've done that well. Credit to Benfica for the good exhibition.

I can't believe Costinha messed it all up by going to the wrong side on that goal.

Costinha has to be Man of the Match, closely followed by every player on Benfica's squad.

Same opinion here, at least we drew ... if we go on playing like this we still have a chance, thanks to Pedro we will remain on top.

When will Trapattoni finally bring Mantorras from the start?! Give him 60 minutes per game and he scores! He scores with an average of 30 quite regularely already! Força Pedro Mantorras!

Finally, hats off for Costinha. What a game!

Trapp was right to bring in Mantorras before Karadas, wrong for sacrificing Giovanni with that substitution. Assis should have been taken out, not Giovanni - he's been on fire the last few months.

Totally agreed. Geovanni is running the sideline rocketlike the past few months. I didn't really understand this substitution as well. But probably he was tired, wouldn't really surprise me. Benfica are lucky not to pay him and Miguel by the kilometres they run. ;) We would be bankrupt in a rush. :D
