Time to turn the page following our inability to qualify for the WC this summer. Looking forward, we have a young, talented squad that seems to be coming together as we speak. In the next two years, I'll be expecting a lot more from this group as they'll have more experience and cohesion. Time will tell if Mihajlovic stays on as coach, but I think going forward it would be the right decision (unless there is a realistic shot at a really good coach) as he has formed this team, and deserves a shot at seeing them play a campaign in which the circumstances will be much different.

It would seem that at the moment we have a team that will center around players like Stojkovic/Brkic, Ivanovic, Subotic/Bisevac, Nastasic, Kolarov, Matic, Fejsa, Basta/Tosic, Tadic/Djuricic, Markovic, Mitrovic/Djordjevic.

If Mihajlovic stays on, I'll be expecting a fair bit, but with a new coach (albeit depending who it is) I feel we'll be making a step backward with new ideas, possibly a new formation, and new players.

Anyways, here are the 'pots' for the EC 2016 qualifiers:

1 - Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, England, Greece, Portugal, Russia and Bosnia (BiH);
2 - Sweden, Ukraine, Croatia, Denmark, Switzerland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary and Ireland;
3 - Serbia, Turkey, Slovenia, Romania, Israel, Norway, Slovakia, Austria and Montenegro;
4 - Armenia, Poland, Scotland, Finland, Latvia, Wales, Bulgaria, Estonia and Iceland;
5 - Belarus, Northern Ireland, Albania, Lithuania, Moldova, FYR Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Cyprus;
6 - Luxembourg, Kazakhstan, Liechtenstein, Malta, Andorra, San Marino, Gibraltar and the Faroe Islands.

Well the pots could have been worse...
The group I would favor would be

England
Czech Republic/Hungary
Serbia
Scotland
Northern Ireland
San Marino

I don't know if it's true, but I feel that we play very well against the British teams and I think we could even take a win off of England more easily then any other Pot 1 nation. I chose Czech Republic/Hungary because I think they are the weakest teams in Pot 2 or at least the ones most out of form.

Spain, Netherlands, and Germany are the trickiest for us in Pot 1 while I also think Bosna would be tough, especially with the rivalry/atmosphere. Even then though, I think Spain's golden generation is more or less on the way out - mind you they still have a lot of talent coming up.

Pot 2 I don't fear anyone really, although I'd rather avoid Belgium considering the other options. Would be nice to get Croatia again as I think we are on the way up while they are heading in the other direction (obviously things can change).

Pot 4 has some tricky teams, many of whom we've struggled with in the past. Teams like Armenia, Poland, Finland, and Estonia have all taken points from us in the past few years, while I think just about all of those teams have beaten us too. I wouldn't want Scotland again, while I know we've beat Bulgaria fairly comfortably in the last couple yeas even though I'm not sure what their team is looking like now.

Pot 5 is also tricky with some potentially dangerous teams who could take points off some of the bigger teams while everyone in Pot 6 besides Kazakhstan looks like a sure 6 points - or so I think.

I would like to see:

BiH
Hrvatska
Srbija
Albania
Bugarska
Gibraltar

To really see if the boys have learned something. To see if Miha can take the heat.

If we played England, they would find an excuse to get us kicked out. One of their players will "hear" a monkey chant, and that will be the end of our campaign.

EURO 2016 will have 24 teams, so these pots shouldn't even matter if things are taken seriously. Unfortunately it wouldn't surprise me if something unforeseen was to happen once more.

For travel purposes, I hope Serbia gets

Any team from pot 1 except England and Bosna cuz who the hell would want to go to those shitholes.
From pot 2, Sweden (so zoric can invite me to his place and give me an oven as a parting gift), Ukraine, Czech republic and Hungary cuz of the pornstars.
Pot 4 only Bulgaria for the pornstars
Pot 5 only Cyprus and hopefully we play them away during the summer months cuz lot of pornstars go there.
Pot 6 Gibraltar cuz apparently they play their games in Algarve, Portugal

It will be interesting this one. I just don't want first 3 NT's from pot 1, everything elese is acceptable. Can't wait for draw.

And one more thing if Mihajlović brakes his word cause he said he will leave if we don't go to Brazil, then he should change that shit with singing and let Adem play. They can find some solution for that matter.

I had recalculated the list of football-rankings.info and did notice a different seedlist.

In my calculations, Sweden will be seeded instead of BIH, Scotland will be in pot 3 instead of Montenegro.

Easiest would definitely be:

Greece
Hungary
Us
Estonia/Finland/Latvia
Moldova
San Marino

If we somehow got a group like that, we'd end up with 30 points.

Better results in recent times, I guess.

Don't forget friendlies are not included in these coefficients.

I also wonder how we're in front of some countries.

The draw will be made on the 24th February next year. Ages away :mad:

I think we are where we deserve to be at the moment tbh. Next time round, with the players we have, Pot 2 is what we should aim for.

I don't know man. Traditionally we do better in tougher groups and I'd like to see these boys tested before the EC.

The positive thing about our current side is that they have plenty tournaments left age wise.

Just look at the ages of the core of this current side in June 2016 and some interesting youngsters and otherwise overlooked players. Current clubs listed as well.

Goalkeepers
Brkic 29 - Udinese
Aleksic 25 - Spartak S.
Rajkovic 20 - Zvezda

Fullbacks

Basta 31 - Udinese - last tournament probably
Tomovic 28 - Fiorentina
Rodic 25 - Zenit, on loan at Volga
Petkovic 23 - Zvezda
Golubovic 21- OFK

Central defence
Ivanovic 32 - Chelsea - last tournament probably
Nastasic 23 - Manchester City

Spajic 23 - Toulouse

Defensive midfield
Matic 27 - Benfica

Mijailovic 22 - Kayserispor

Milinkovic-Savic 20 - Vojvodina

Central midfield
Krsticic 25 - Sampdoria
Kuzmanovic 28 - Inter

Looking at the different positions we have quite a lot of depth in many of them. The way I see it there are some things to keep an eye out for.

- goalkeeper situation. We need to decide whether Brka is the new number 1 and we need to do it now. He has plenty of good years left as goalkeeper and should in theory only be getting better once he fully recovers from his injury. Rajkovic will be 20 by then and hopefully playing regularly at CZ.

- we'll need fullback competition in these next 2 years. Right now Kolarov and Basta should be fine, if we decide to move Bane to the centre, but there's little back-up for them, especially on the left. Rodic is starting to get minutes in the RPL, so he might be an option by then.

- central midfield. After Krsticic there's not much atm. Kuz needs to pick himself up, cause he's in the worst form of his life and for quite a while now. Pantic is a top talent and it would not surprise me to see him explode like Andrija Zivkovic did.

The positive side for me is our central defence, defensive midfield with plenty of options right now and new ones coming up and our attacking midfield and wingers with quite a lot of creativity, pace and trickery among them, finally.

Upfront we're also in a much better situation than just a year or two ago. Djordjevic looks like he's ready for the next step in his career and Mitar will have 2 more years to develop into the Serbian Drogba. :D

Also keep in mind that a lot can change in the next 2 years. We might lose a few players to injuries or bad choices in their respective careers, but at the same time new prospects are likely to emerge. Like for instance Luka Jovic from the current U17 side. Interesting times ahead and as long as our FA doesn't mess things up completely, we should have a nice future ahead of us.
