Most clubs in the Championship have 4 matches to play and the top two spots right now seem to be cemented unless Hull collapse. The playoff places are tight, but maybe not as tight as in previous seasons, the relegation zone is probably the most contested area in the league.

Anyway the story after this week's matches is Cardiff City are one point from finally gaining promotion to the Premier League after many close calls. They have been by far the best team in the league and despite some slip ups in the past few months will still earn promotion with games to spare.

Hull City with Steve Bruce in charge is likely the second automatic promotion candidate, currently 6 points above Watford. They have been aided by the fact Watford have only won one match in their last 6. Watford are heavily influeced by young players especially by loans from Udinese, which has sparked controversy as foreign loans don't count in the loan limit. Anyway, Watford will likely finish 3rd.

Which means three playoff spots are up for grabs, probably contested between: Crystal Palace, Brighton, Bolton, Nottingham Forest, Leicester with Charlton Athletic having an outside chance. Bolton spent most of the first half of the season in the bottom half of the table but 8 wins from 10 saw them explode up the table. Middlesbrough meanwhile have collapsed and will miss the playoffs despite being in the top 6 for most of the first half of the season

1. Cardiff 83 +27
2. Hull 77 +12
--------------------------------
3. Watford 71 +24
4. Crystal Palace 66 +13 [game in hand]
5. Brighton 65 +18
6. Bolton 63 +8
---------------------------------
7. Nottingham Forest 63 +5
8. Leicester 61 +22
9. Charlton 57 +2
10. Middlesbrough 55 -7

All though this thread is about promotion, teams like Wolves, Blackburn amd Birmingham are all in relegation problems. Wolves could likely suffer back to back relegations :undecide:

Cardiff earn promotion to the EPL after a draw to Charlton, helped by losses by both Hull and Watford. One more win and Cardiff will win the league as well

Hull held to a scoreless draw at home to already relegated Bristol, a win would have practically sealed promotion. Watford host Blackburn tomorrow and can cut Hull's lead to 4 points with two matches to go

Watford with an easy win over Blackburn but still 4 points behind Hull with two matches to go. Brighton up to 4th after a big win over Blackpool. Pretty much 6 clubs are fighting for three playoff spots

1. Cardiff 85 +27 [PROMOTED]
2. Hull 78 +11
----------------------------------------
3. Watford 74 +27
4. Brighton 69 +23
5. C. Palace 67 +10 (game in hand)
6. Bolton 66 +8
-----------------------------------------
7. Leicester 65 +23
8. Nottingham F. 64 +4
9. Charlton 61 +3

Palace's game in hand is away to Millwall

Would like Bolton to come up if Wigan go down. Too many away trips outside the North West these days. Used to have Blackpool/Burnley, Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn, Everton, United and Liverpool all nearby. Now its just the Scouse and Scum to visit.

Bolton were in the bottom half for most of the season but the past few months they have really shot up the table. The opposite of Middlesbrough and Blackburn :D

Hull City fail to earn promotion after losing away to Barnsley, meaning Watford are a point behind with only one match to play. Brighton will finish 4th. Palace and Bolton round out the playoff spots so far but Forest and Leicester right behind.

1. Cardiff 86 +27
2. Hull 78 +9
-------------------------------
3. Watford 77 +28
4. Brighton 72 +24
5. C. Palace 68 +10 [game in hand]
6. Bolton 67 +8
--------------------------------
7. Nottingham F. 67 +5
8. Leicester 65 +22

Last Round Fixtures
Hull vs. Cardiff
Watford vs. Leeds
Brighton vs. Wolves
Millwall vs. Palace (game in hand; Tuesday)
Palace vs. Peterborough
Bolton vs. Blackpool
Nottingham Forest vs. Leicester

Interesting fixtures, especially the one at the top and the bottom. Forest and Leicester will take points off each other so one of them will miss out but due to Palace's and Bolton's "easy" fixtures they can both miss out. Hull need to beat an already promoted Cardiff to promote automatically

Meanwhile Wolves are close to back-to-back relegations at the bottom

We're done. We've been on our holidays for about 2 months now. 2 wins in 16 is a horrific record. Even if we somehow manage to miraculously beat Forest and sneak into the play-offs we will get spanked by Watford (or Hull). Watford ran rings around us on Friday night, so if we were to meet them again I have ZERO confidence in us beating them over two legs.

I don't know what has changed. From August to January we were spanking teams and we ranked up a goal difference of +29 (best in the league, even better than Cardiff), but then we entered February and we've been nothing short of a pub side ever since.

I hope Watford get second. Hull are dire to watch, and Steve Bruce is a tedious boring ****.

Palace and Millwall draw 0:0, according to BBC both sides were content with the draw, not too many chances. Palace still not guaranteed a playoff though, but they play relegation threatened Peterborough on Saturday

lol

Watford - Leeds who have nothing to play for

Hull - Cardiff, champions already

At the bottom, Palace-Peterboro, Huddersfield-Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday-Boro and Derby-Millwall

Almost HT: Watford losing at home to Leeds

Hull level with Cardiff

Fight for the last play-off spot is interesting too. Leicester in it at the moment thanks to goal difference

Peterboro meanwhile going down if it stays so.
