15.3.04 - The 2004 edition of the CONCACAF Champions Cup begins on Wednesday, 17 March, with the first-legs of the Quarterfinal Series.

Deportivo Saprissa (CRC) will host CF Pachuca (MEX) at the Estadio Nacional in San José at 20:00, while the Chicago Fire (USA) travels to Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago to face CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh (TRI) at the Hasley Crawford Stadium at 19:00.

CF Monterrey (MEX) heads to San Salvador, El Salvador for an encounter against CD F.A.S. (SLV) at the Estadio Cuscatlán at 19:30, while LD Alajuelense (CRC) greets the San Jose Earthquakes (USA) at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela at 20:00. The return-legs of the 2004 Champions Cup Quarterfinal Series will take place on 24 March.

The CONCACAF Champions Cup is the longest running international competition in the region and has been the premier club competition in the Confederation since its inception in 1962.

Home teams dominate first-legs of 2004 CONCACAF Champions Cup Quarterfinals

17.3.04 - The 2004 edition of the CONCACAF Champions Cup began on Wednesday with the three of the four home teams dominating their respective first-leg quarterfinal series.

CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh, Deportivo Saprissa (CRC) and LD Alajuelense (CRC) all posted victories in their respective first-legs on Wednesday, while CD F.A.S. (SLV) could only manage a tie in its home encounter.

Goals by Wilson Muñoz and Álvaro Saborío led Deportivo Saprissa to a 2:0 win over CF Pachuca (MEX) at the Estadio Nacional in San José, while just a few miles from the Costa Rican capital, LD Alajuelense got tallies from Erick Scott, Froylán Ledezma and Luis Diego Arnaez to defeat the San Jose Earthquakes 3:0 at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela.

Three goals by Cornell Glenn and two more from Kerry Moray paced CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh to a 5:2 victory over Chicago Fire (USA) at the Hasley Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain. Jonathan Jaqua and Justin Mapp had the only tallies for Chicago in the loss, while in San Salvador, El Salvador, visiting CF Monterrey (MEX) held CD F.A.S. to a scoreless draw (0:0) in their respective first-leg series at the Estadio Cuscatlan.

The return-legs of the 2004 Champions Cup Quarterfinal Series will take place on 24 March.

2004 CONCACAF Champions Cup Semifinals set for next week
6.4.04 - The 2004 CONCACAF Champions Cup Semifinals are set for next week with the first-leg series encounters to be hosted by two former winners in two cities in Costa Rica.

Two-time Champions Cup winner (1993, 1995) Deportivo Saprissa (CRC) will host the Chicago Fire (USA) at the Estadio Nacional in San José on 14 April, while LD Alajuelense (CRC), who last won the Champions Cup in 1986, greets CF Monterrey (MEX) at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela. The second-legs will take place on 21 April.

The draw that determined the order of matches in the final stage of the 2004 CONCACAF Champions Cup was held on Tuesday, 6 April in the offices of the General Secretariat in New York City.

The winner of the semifinal series contested between Deportivo Saprissa and Chicago Fire will host the first-leg of 2004 Champions Cup final pairing on 5 May, against the team that advances from the semifinal tie between LD Alajuelense and CF Monterrey.

In the second-leg of the 2004 finals series will be on 12 May, and will be hosted by either LD Alajuelense or CF Monterrey.

The CONCACAF Champions Cup is the longest running international club competition in the region and has crowned the champion club of the Confederation since its inception in 1962.
