Based on your votes in the "vote on this thread", the end of season awards will be done in seperate polls and discussion threads.

I'll try to post a new award every few days. The traffic here will go thin during the World Cup but i still hope the Madridstas would have a second and come vote for our end of season awards at least!

It was really a tough call to make.

But my vote had to go in the end to Makelele . He was simply our most consistent performer through the year, and litrally carried the biggest weight of our defensive duties.

Zidane is just behind in second (lack of consistency the main reason), with Raul and Roberto tied for third.

This is my first post although I am a regular to this site but this my first post

I am a real Madrid fan sine 94-95 the year when we won the league with valdano , even though before I used to follow their news in the league

About the vote I voted to Makalele the Human machine, he really played very well this season and improved a lot.

Thanks to Madrid players for winning the CL and I am proud to be a Madrid fan

And the decision to make seperate threads is simply moronic. Each next one will get less and less attention, until people stop caring at all. You get it done with quick and fast, whilst people still have things fresh in their memories.
Come the World Cup, it'll all get completely pointless.

BTW, what about a "player of may" thread? Makelele won april I believe, so maybe we should have one for May. Not a full month, but we did play... 4 or 5 games ey? (Japan) I admit, i'm looking for a way to honor Zidane...



One other thing to this particular poll - to me Zidane remains the dr jekyll and mr hyde of Real Madrid. It's hard not to praise someone who scores such awesome goals, and shows such skill and beauty on the field... yet I am still of the opinion Real 2000/01 with only Figo at the helm was a better TEAM. And whatever I wanna say, whatever my heart tells me, however grateful I am to Zidane... my mind tells me the clear fact - his arrival has deorganised us as a team. We have moved back a step tactically, and moved forward individually (probably the greatest assembly of individuals since... I dunno, ever?).
I can't hand this award to Zidane, because of these reasons (even though they may seem completely ridiculous and unfair, in the sense, that it's not his fault, and he's given the team everything he's had, which is obvious, and I thank him for that:star:, but... ).
Makelele wins because he's the man who has prevented us from completely falling apart as a team, something Zidane is unintentionally responsible for

I generally agree with your comments about our team, Zidane and disorganizations, though i think Solari 3rd is stretching it, considering how less games he got, and how he was sometimes more flashy then productive.

Oh, and if one thing will get no attention, is a player of the month for May

People often come into forums, see polls, and find it fun to vote, but don't really care about the results. The idea of making seperate threads is a terrible idea, I never would've even proposed such an idea, but since it's done, no point in making any fuss... let's just get on with it, preferably quickly

Player of may would get as much attention as any other poll. Why shouldn't it?

Solari 3rd is a tribute to him. Hasn't been up to it the past couple of weeks, but since february he was amazing. the way he broke into the team is no coincidence, and I can't see how Roberto Carlos who had a good season by his standards, merits anything more. Raul Bravo who played in his few absences did perfectly fine, which means he wasn't irreplacable (ok, maybe I'm stretching it). Solari at one point was really the architect of our succes's, and that was during that critical point in march (Zidane went missing then too).
All in all of course you can argue that he doesn't deserve it, I don't have a problem with that... Raul deserves mentioning, but it's not like he's light years off

I think Makelele should be given this award without even thinking twice... A lack of consitency from players is what we lacked this year and a lack of team because of the Zizou transfer which was not his fault as labas mentioned... And Makelele was our only consistent player and gave it all in each match either we played the likes of Bayern or Barca or the likes of Rayo or Valladolid... His fighting spirit and he's willing to fight for each ball is very amazing.... he really had a tough job to do especially when we played the diamond.. and i dont think even a player like Vieira can handle it! HATS OFF TO MAKELELE!

Makelele, for his hard work, consistency, and determination.

Players such as Raul, Zizou, and Solari were also great, but they lacked the consistency of Makelele. One match they would shine, one match they would be invisible.

but i vote for raul because he deserves more votes, i think, than zidane .....zidane played very well sometimes , just well others ( like in the champion's league final ...i watch again the match and for me makélélé was the best .......zizou played good but not very good in this final....his goal , it, was very very very good HALAMADRID ) and he played bad sometimes too...

like Raul (he played very good , good and bad ) you said me but Raul was more decisive ......with more goals (it's normal.....Raul is a forward) but Raul make more assists than zidane ......


My vote goes to Raul because we saw in few matches when he was not here ( see the match against alaves for example) real madrid don't play very good ........but maybe we have forgotten that all this last years because he plays almost all the matchs.......

He make a good season but not great season .....He must be more regular like for example figo last season ......i think you have short memory ...........yeah Figo not played good this season but he played very good all the season last year .......and for me ( and i'm french but i 'm not a chauvinistic that's all ) he play more well and he was more decisive ( real madrid too) than zidane this year ....

the semifinal game against Barcelona in the Camp Nou, the magnifecent goal he scored there, the big sombrero over Bonano head, he muted the big stadium and opened the door for the win which I think We did not get in Catalunya since the mid-eightys how about the final game against Leverkusseb when it matters the most, when the game was tied, Leverkusen looked real focus they tought finally we can see the light at the end of this looooong tunnel, there was Zidane making the best goal of the year. Petit is ahead of Claude because he is more an offensive player than he is. And whatever anyone could say, Vieira is still the best by a mile over Makelele.
The Vieira- petit duo in the midfied is very well balanced in order to defend properly and set up counter attacks.

BTW, my vote goes to Zidane even if I know that Makelele was more consistent this season. Let me explain... it is such a joy to watch Zizou play that it could'nt be otherwise for me. Moreover, Zizou just arrived in Madrid... imagine next year when he will be settled for good.

I am very proud that the two best players for Real this season are Zidane and Makelele , both in the French NT... we will rock this world cup.

Makelele for me.

He has been outstanding for us and consistent all season long. I cant think of any games (that Ive watched anyway) where he has had a bad game. Brilliant season, cheers Claude.

ZZ has done great in his first season especially in his last match. Solari has been a revelation and Raul at times has just been superb.

I based my judgement on 2 criteria:

Matchwinning ability, and consistency.To give the award just absed one either one of those 2 would be wrong IMO, so for me, I based it on those 2, and here's the list I came up with:

The COnsistency list:
1.Makelele
2.Zidane
3.Carlos
4.Hierro
5.Solari

The matchwinners list:
1.Zidane
2.Solari
3.Raul y Morientes
4.Figo(many forget he was good enough to win player of the month twice in the early part of the season)

So in my list, we have Zidane at number 1 in 1 list, and number 2 in the other.Yes,in consistency,there was a huge gap probably between Zidane and Makelele, and you could say for everymatch that Zidane won for us, there was one that Makelele SAVED for us.And I don't doubt for a second that Makelele was as invaluable as Zidane to us this season.But Zizou's performances in the big games have just been sensational.In attack, he was almost the only player who was playing well this season, until the emergence of Solari.I had been confused between these two whenever I had thought about this before, but in the end, that Champions League final probably clinched it for Zizou from me.
It was unbelievably close in my mind between our two Frenchies however.

As for how Zidane affected our team, even if I do say so myself, the season almost turned out exactly as I had predicted.:stuckup: There was lack of consitency DUE TO the lack of a formation , but enough individual brilliance to win when they were really up for it.Unfortunately, you can't always motivate yourself , and so the lowly league matches were our biggest danger, and so there was always a better chance for us in the UCL than La Liga, because in UCL ,you are ALWAYS motivated.

Anyway, how many times is Perez gonna prove people wrong? Not everybody(not me:stuckup: ) but last season, he didnt buy a defender and we were moaning it and we had a successful season, and this season as well, he did the same thing.Now we got everything, Florentino,get us that defender this time,please.

My vote goes to Makelele. I have been extremely impressed by Makelele's effort. He gives 100% every game and is a true champion. I hear Makelele may be for sale this summer, I think that is a really stupid mistake by Real, especially as Vieira is staying at Arsenal. Makelele is demanding a pay rise and I think he deserves one and Real should pay him. I hope Arsenal signs him, then we will have the best midfield in the world.

2nd place has to be Zizou. It has been a joy to watch him this season and he has proved he is a big game player with goals agaisnt Barca and in the champions league final.
£48 million is proving to be a bit of a bargain.

65 mln$ is never a bargain, and certainly can't be judged as such after just 1 season. Time will be a true jedge to Perez and his big money buys... right now, it's just an empty phrase.
