Uefa ponders use of two referees

Uefa is to investigate the use of two referees in matches as it tries to stop players faking injury in an attempt to get opposition players sent off.

On Saturday West Brom boss Bryan Robson accused Chelsea's Didier Drogba of diving in the league leaders' 2-1 win.

Uefa chief executive Lars-Christer Olsson told BBC Five Live's Sportsweek programme: "The use of two referees will be discussed in the summer.

"Previous tests haven't been successful because of communication."

Olsson added: "We haven't foreseen any tests in the near future but it is one of the matters that has come up in discussion with clubs in terms of dealing with this behaviour."

The Uefa chief also believes that diving has become a real problem for English football.

"It seems it has been significantly more in Britain than in the other parts of Europe, although there have been reports from international games as well."

:howler: Are people really thick enough to think that diving is due to the players' nationality. Real Madrid-Atletico last night was abysmal for diving, as was Chelsea-West Brom. Go to South America or Japan and diving is just as prevalent.

If UEFA wanted to cut down on anything, whether it be diving, two footed challenges etc, they would enforce unreasonably harsh punishments. Give anyone who evidently dives a three month ban and within a month no players would bother diving as you would lose more than you gain.

I say 11 refs per side, that way each player is followed.

It could make for a tight game, if you know what I mean, but it be "interesting" to see.

Silly idea. I don't see how it would make things better. I really dislike how FIFA and other entities always try to change the game. The game is fine as is, it is the players that have to stop cheating the games by diving and it is the refs who have to be more careful.
