Which one is the best? I think the 08 defence is better but the 99 midfield was better. Forward line? Yorke-Cole was amazing but ... this team has Ronaldo attacking.

Alex said this team has the potential to be his best ever, what do you think?

I almost think its the difference in the benches. What price a Teddy Sheringham today to steady the midfield when Scholes was worn out, or an Ole to put the cockney's defence under a bit of pressure?

2008 are so good, they don't even need a keeper

All jokes apart. I think as a squad, it's better than 99. Back then, everything was based on the pairings but there wasn't very good strength in depth. Now, it's a team, everyone seems to get along great and there's a brilliant depth in our squad. First 11 wise, nothing really separates them, apart from the best player in the world.

The 2008 squad is better, but both are special. What they have in common: they are/were a TEAM. And luck was with them.

I think overall the 1999 team was better. Don´t forget Keane and Scholes missed the final. Keane was the most important Utd player ever for me.

I would always choose 1999.It was classic Manchester United,Keane driving the team that played at a blistering pace and dominated squads in and out.The number of balls Giggs and Beckham would put in the box was mind-blowing.Cronaldo is not even a blip on Ryan G and neither are carrick and Hargo anything on Keano and Scholes.The defence today has big names but Jaap Stam ran that defence with pure heart.

That's my favourite team, personally. Without the three foreigner rule we'd have gone close to the EC in 94 and 95.

As for which was the best team, we could debate that for the rest of time.

A combination of the three teams though:

when i saw this thread this was one question i was asking my self...who is better evra or irwin....impossible to deciede.....guy had a great game yesterday also...

I still think the 99 team is better as an overall unit. It was a beautifully balanced team. But the current team has more talent and attacking flair plus a more solid centre back pairing. This team can get better though which is whats frightening.

The 99 Midfield was the best the premier league has ever seen IMO. The defence was probably the weak point but overall I have to say that it is the 2008 team which slightly shades it. If Cantona hadn't retired before 99, then that team would have been better but this team has so many quality players in reserve.

Dont know - It's always hard to compare sides of different eras... But I think the 94/95 team was just packed full of champions.

Dont know about Irwin though; a class player and united legend but give me Evra anyday (And this is coming from the bloke who was not sold on Evra, until this season.)

Anyway - isn't it just a luxury to be able to compare 3 champion teams we have put out in the space of 15/20 years.

That team gets me hard
