Zanetti: "Staying calm"
Tuesday, 04 November 2008 23:55:13
[FOTO Tuesday, 04 November 2008 23:55:13]

NICOSIA - Inter captain Javier Zanetti made these comments on Sky Sport Italia after Tuesday's Champions League draw with Anorthosis Famagusta:

"We wanted to win this match. Unfortunately, we didn't. We got a draw which is okay for our position in the table. We have to stay calm because the team did everything it had to do. We created lots of chances and scored three goals. There were a few mistakes that anyone can make and this penalised us a bit.

"There are situations like these when you concede five goals in two games, but the team has to stay calm and work like it knows how, because I think we can improve. You always have to play the match, whether it's against a Cypriot team or not.

"We're not disorientated by the change in formation. We work on tactics in the week and we believe in everything we do. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn't, but the important thing is that the team does its best.

"I told Burdisso to stay calm. I'm sorry for what happened to him but these things happen to anyone to plays this game. He has great character and he will get over this easily. Julio Cruz is back with us and we will do everything to get Adriano back to do doing great again."

Cambiasso: "Partly happy"

NICOSIA - Esteban Cambiasso made his return to action in Tuesday's Champions League draw against Anorthosis after picking up an injury against the Cypriots in Milan a fortnight ago.

"I'm partly happy, for me it was important to be back," said the Argentine midfielder. "I'm sorry about the result but it doesn't count much."

Cambiasso could have grabbed a late winner for the Nerazzurri but Anorthosis keeper Beqaj kept out a header that appeared to cross the line. "There's nothing I can do about it now, so it's better not to comment. Unfortunately these things can happen in football. Goals like my one tonight won't easily be given until they start using microchips."

On Inter's 3-3 draw in Cyprus, Cambiasso said: "I find it hard to analyse matches without watching them because you risk saying the wrong things when you analyse them at the end. We're playing excellent football in stretches but we need to find continuity for the whole ninety minutes, but this isn't always possible, either for defects of ours or merits of our opponents.

"We were very unlucky today. If we look at their goals, they all came from strange incidents."

Its funny how you look at things.

One could say that Inter has struggled in this group, but have yet to lose and they top the group. But I wanted a win today, as did the club. Defense was horrific, enough said.

To date, JM has only lost one game thus far this season. To me, that is important. The side has not played its best, yet we have lost only once to Milan.

There is plenty of time to get our game on track. JM was fooled by Burdisso, but I'm sure he'll play the right player next time.

- Quaresma was good again, he's definitely getting confidence because in the end he made a good cross which Zlatan sort of ruined and Quaresma got his panties into a twist, this very much reminds me of the Quaresma - Lisandro Lopez relationship and most of the time, that was awesome.

.
I've always said I would praise Quaresma if/ when he performs

and last night he did

dynamic with the ball , good crossing, good movement

along with Cambiasso, our best player on the night

I know he wasn't the most influental in play, but Super Mario scored one and assisted the other 2 goals!

Somebody asked himself the question how long ago it was Inter scored from a corner/set-piece. I reacted with: 'The last time Balotelli played...'. We've been struggling with this and now the first time he plays we score 3 goals from set-plays, all assisted or scored by him!

Not to mention Cordoba's match winner in Reggio Calabria - from a Balotelli corner kick.

Alright, I am going to have to eat my ego and my words. Nerazzurri4life was correct about Burdisso. I'm out- later
What about me? :D I'm the f**king founder of the Anti-Burdisso movement. Some credit, please. ;)

hmm just seen the highlights again and burdisso is to be blamed just as much as jc.

Burdisso was going to pass back at the keeper but he didnt realise there was a player behind him, the player could have latched onto that ball. However JC is still just as guilty for not communicating with Burdisso about the man behind or that he was coming to claim the ball.
Like I said, JC called for the ball. It's Burdisso's fault he couldn't adjust his brain to deal with that. Mourinho is convinced of this too:-

"Julio Cesar called for the ball and Burdisso decided to intervene like that. It wasn't a good decision. If he wanted to go for the ball he should have kicked it out of play. Anyway, at the end of the first half I told my players I didn't want to criticise individuals."

I can't blame JC for it...you make the call and when you get there, you find that your defender has ignored you and decided to put it back anyway.

I know its been a good 18 hours since the match finished, but didnt get time to post after the match.

Absolute shenanigans at the back, was quite embarassing. I dont think i have been that frustrated during an Inter match for a while, i was throwing all sorts of projectiles around in my living room. Obviously on another day and another defensive pairing we would have had this match wrapped up, but wasnt the case. I didnt understand JM's decision not to start Cordoba.

JM's substitutions were disappointing as well, dont think it was the best idea at that point of the match to move Cambiasso so deep, and move Zanetti into midfield, that was a terrible decision.

Our midfield and Ibra were terrible, couldnt string two passes together, just kept losing possession or just passing to no one, so frustrating.

A disappointing result really, and its a huge loss of two points, as qualification wouldve allowed us to rest players for the next two matches and concentrate on getting back on track in the Serie A, so in other words this result has affected our whole next month of football.

I guess there is quite a few positives out of this match:

1. Balotelli's set pieces, finally we are a threat again from the set piece. Such an improvement from Mancini and Chivu really, unbelievable how much it adds to our game.

2. Quaresma had his best match so far in an Inter shirt, that run that he made which led to him being followed and us subsequently scoring, is exactly what we need. He was direct in that run, and it just seemed to open things up so much, that could be the creative edge we need if he can execute that sort of stuff on the football field consistently.

3. Cruz scoring, and showing fans that there are no grudges with Mou.

I have to say, the one thing that I love about Ballotelli is the strength he provides with his set plays. Free kicks and corners actually become dangerous again. For that reason alone I would rather have Mario than Adriano.

I think someone should point out how many set pieces have been scored when Mario was taking them out of all our set piece goals over the last year. Maybe even a set piece goal per minute when Mario is on the field compared to when he is off.

yeah really pissed of with that. ok Burdisso is having a stinker take him off and put on Cordoba, he has been playing a few games and seems to be in good condition. Dont move the only player in midfield that was helping the defense.
