Weekend 3 kicked off this afternoon with Union Berlin easily beating Mainz 4-0. Mainz released their coach after the first two losses (3-1 and 4-1), but today's play wasn't an improvement. Going to be a long season for Mainz fans. If you can catch the highlights, all four Union goals were beauts!

VfB Stuttgart come back once again from 0-1 to draw 1-1 with Bayer Leverkusen. They brought on five second half substitutes that turned the match around. These youngsters (youngest group in 1.B) bring energy, but also mistakes. Anyway, a draw is fair result for VfB given Leverkusen's excellent defensive zone coverage.

Schalke and Mainz are a complete mess right now, Koln also off to a poor start to the season and wonder is Gisdol will be on the hot seat soon. Another draw for Leverkusen, three in a row to start the season

And RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt are at the top of the table. If Augsburg win today, they will go top of table. Not something anyone would predict.

Awesome match today in the 2.B. Nurnberg went ahead 1-0 over Darmstadt, who pulled it back to 1-1. Nurnberg then scored a second to make it 2-1. Darmstadt pulled even again, 2-2, and then won it on a free kick header in stoppage time. Great end-to-end action. Loved it!

Reports say he's on the verge of joining PSV on a 2 year deal. I thought that he was going to join Hertha.

Reports say he's on the verge of joining PSV on a 2 year deal. I thought that he was going to join Hertha.

Yeah, it looks like he is now on the roster of PSV, which is loaded with strikers: Malen, Zahavi, Gakpo, Madueke, Romero, and Piroe. Is Gio Reyna the reason Gotze wanted to move away?

Nah, Gotze simply never recovered from his stupid move to Bayern Munich when he moved back to Dortmund and quickly fell out of order. He's nowhere near the player he used to be back in 2012 or so, at least at club level. It's a good thing Borussia got rid of him although I was expecting him to end up at Hertha BSC like it was heavily suggested last season.

Koln and Schalke get their first points of the season, drawing Eintracht Frankfurt and Union Berlin respectively. Mainz now the only team in the league without a point so far.

That looks to be the relegation battle this season: Mainz, Schalke, and Koln.

Koln picked up a point away to Stuttgart and look to be better than their 2-points would indicate. They press high up the pitch, which is bothering to clubs that don't move the ball very quickly.

Weekend 6 starts with a Friday night draw, 1-1, between Schalke and VfB Stuttgart. Schalke earn only their second point of the season.

Mainz 05 finally get their first win of the season against Freiburg 1-3 and move above the relegation zone. Union Berlin up to 5th place with their win against Koln. Bayern's slip 1-1 against Werder Bremen at home means both Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are only one point behind them.

Borussia Dortmund with a shocking 1-5 loss at home against Stuttgart, their second straight loss at home. Favre is likely to be sacked sometime soon. Bayern didn't take full advantage of it as they only drew 1-1 Union so with RB Leipzig's win against Werder both teams are now tied at 24 points. Leverkusen can overtake them both with a win against Hoffenheim.

I watched the VfB win over Borussia live. It was AWESOME! Good to see that the 1.B season so far is not the simple march to the finish for Bayern the same as nearly every year.

It was awesome in a way yes but it was more down to Dortmund being awful than it was to Stuttgart being really good. I don't think any of the other teams can truly challenge Bayern bar maybe RB Leipzig but it remains to be seen. In the meantime, Favre was sacked and his assistant Edin Terzic will lead Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the season as things stand.

I know there's a lot of games to go but Dortmund not consistent enough to compete for the title, their goal should be just to stay in the top 4, the plan is the hire Marco Rose it seems in the summer but maybe they will pay the compensation to Gladbach to get him in during the break

Big game later today between Leverkusen-Bayern, Leverkusen top of the table at the moment, with Leipzig dropping points today a Leverkusen win will actually see them create a gap at the top

Schalke's misery continues, at this point it seems like only a fluke can get them a win, few weeks ago they conceded in injury time to Augsburg to fail to win and today they lost at home to Bielefeld. Baum was sacked a few days ago, Stevens once again is interim but it seems they want to bring back Tedesco who announced he will leave Spartak at the end of the season (doubt Schalke can afford to bring him in early). Elsewhere at the big win for Bremen at Mainz who along with Schalke are getting cut adrift. Koln with a point at Leipzig and they have now gotten results at Dortmund and Leipzig in recent weeks, though not much else Hertha down there as well which is one of the major disappointments of the season so far
