West Bromwich Albion face a tough trip to Cardiff this Tuesday evening [K/O 7.45pm] in their first away Championship fixture of the new season.

There has been little love lost between both clubs during the summer over the 'Jason Koumas affair' and with both sides involved in a very public spat during the summer, this game is expected to be played in a hostile atmosphere, especially given the connections of the players and staff on either side.

On the football side, Cardiff City, who finished 11th in the Championship last season are likely to provide a stern test for Albion.

WBA Team News

Following the opening day victory over Hull City, Bryan Robson will surely be reluctant to make any changes to the Albion starting eleven.

New signing Pascal Zuberbuhler appears to have the edge for the starting jersey in the Albion goal over established number one Tomasz Kuszczak, who is thought to be edging closer to completing a transfer to Manchester United.

Albion are without Thomas Gaarsdoe and Neil Clement, who are both battling back to fitness following summer operations. Chris Perry is almost certain to partner captain Curtis Davies in central defence, following an impressive debut. Martin Albrechsten is competing with Steve Watson to start at right-back, with Watson expected to get the nod for his more robust defensive qualities. Paul Robinson is expected to conclude the defence at left-back.

Albion have a luxury of talent available in midfield, although Diomansy Kamara is out injured with a broken bone in his right-foot and Jason Koumas remains AWOL. Nigel Quashie and Ronnie Wallwork are expected to form Albion's central midfield pairing, with Darren Carter having to settle for a place on the Albion bench. Zoltan Gera is expected to play wide-right in midfield and Jonathan Greening looks certain to maintain his position wide-left.

With limited options John Hartson is set to continue to partner Nathan Ellington in a 4-4-2 formation. Bryan Robson may be tempted to give Junichi Inamoto a starting place in midfield given his former connections to Cardiff City and push Gera into 'the hole' off Hartson, however, the team is widely expected to be unchanged from that which defeated Hull City last Saturday.

Possible Starting Lineup:

Zuberbuhler

Watson Davies Perry Robinson

Gera Wallwork Quashie Greening

Hartson Ellington

If its a serious injury, that means there's only Hartson for upcoming games, and young ones Nicholson & Nardiello :rollani:

Cardiff seemed to be a pretty reasonable side, I imagine they will be up in the top 10 this season.
