|GICA||Spain won. Very probably they'll get 6 points. We are forced to beat England or France.|

Thanks to Hagi he knows many players from Viitorul and the senior NT, but he was the only pure DM. We can't forget we were facing players like Vlasic who beat Real Madrid this CL season or Halilovic, a former Barca player.
To me it was a great performance, but obviously at this level you expect mistakes. And as GICA said, this is a huge level, specially for players coming from Liga I
Against England I'd use Baluta-Nedelcu-Cicaldau and Man, Ianis and Puscas upfront. That way we can control the midfield better. A draw is not a bad result for us. If we avoid conceding early, we'll be in a good position
Of course we still aren't favourites, we are facing PL players while we hope Baluta gets a chance there next season.
@NoName They do have much to loose...there's a huge expectation put on them specially because they are managing what the senior haven't done in 2 decades. And they know it. So having the chance to qualify is a pressure
Of course Radoi has to convince them they don't owe anything to the crowd and that they have to make their own path. If it isn't here they'll certainly bring a lot of joy to Romania in the future
BTW I have the feeling that outside of 5-6 players (counting Marin) these players won't have great careers, but ad the golden generation they'll raise many eyebrows as a team. In that sense they can be as good as Hagi and company were
Romania in Euro U21 1998
That team played much better than what the results showed.

Do the English players know that, as it is tradition, they have to lose against us in a final tournament?!
Our players should really step up mentally and not be afraid (easier said than done), we have almost nothing to lose while England has all the pressure. We just have to play our football and play without fear and we'll do fine. They showed it several times in past months, there's no need not to believe in themselves.
None of the teams are playing really well, probably only Germany. Italy did well against Spain, but in the first 20 minutes they were outplayed. This is one of the most difficult international tournaments in the world, of any cathegory. Most of the teams have similar quality and surviving the group is almost impossible for a medium team.
The Croatian possesion was not a problem for us, they generally passed the ball in not dangerous zones. I think our problem against Croatia was mental. Players were in the 1st half suffocated by the pressure of playing a final tournament. But they improved within the minutes, which shows they have character.
I wonder if Radoi is thinking about a tactical move against England. Our midfield can suffer against their fast transitions and the defence would be exposed if they aren't helped.
PS: Yesterday did 25 years of the famous win against Colombia in WC'94. I watched the game again the other day. Romania didn't cross midfield in the first 15 minutes, Dumitrescu losing all the balls, a complete disaster some would say...Until Hagi did his magics and assisted Raducioiu for the first goal.
Our passing and especially our shooting has to be much better in the next 2 games, also our defensive organisation (we had huge holes on the right wing and in the center from time to time). It's crazy to win 4:1 in a tournament while playing average at best...it won't be enough against England and France, we can definitely play better.
What I like about Hagi is that he has always defensive moments, winning back possession sometimes....don't know a lot of offensive creative players who help that much in defense. He just has to avoid his few moments where he completely chocked and looked like a Youth player (and he is playing on professional level for years now).
Baluta had 79% passing accuracy and 80% successful duels.
Ivan had 23% won duels (he was bad yes but still better than some others imo, players like him are crazy: obvious talent and skill, but every decision they take is wrong, just not a good football brain, I hope he finds a coach who can teach him that if that's still possible at his age (and not even sure how much of that can be learned, I think some just have it from birth)...)
Man 10%! Manea 29% as a defender...our whole team had 38% won duels....you could see it in the game, like I said, a very weird (deserved) 4:1 win, the Croatians obviously dominated us in possession for many parts of the game but we dominated in chances.
I would definitely replace Ivan, he looks like a player who will score once every 10 games...replacing Manea won't be possible let's hope he does better next game, I was surprised that a player with his experience, who should be a leader in this team, looks so out of place in some moments.
I hope this was our worst game in the groups.
Romania in U21 EURO 2019
I donít agree with Maneaís rating at all.... he was a liability in most situations imo. Iíd still like to see Rus given a chance at some point, to replace Nedelcearu, or maybe Pascanu if suspended. He looked fine against Spain and other U21 games.
As for Cicaldau.. he would indeed be a huge loss without Marin in this team. That said, I still feel Nedelcu, though more defensive has good long passes, and Dragomir, very technical and decent IQ, have enough ability to surprise some given the chance. And we know Ciobanu has had some special moments and Radoi rates him highly. But of course, not the ideal situation we want to be in..
Man definitely still a starter in the next game, but Iíd use Coman instead of Ivan. Hagi and Puscas clear starters as well.
I'm just watching the England-France highlights now... holy shit, an English player dribbling. Wow, when's the last time you ever saw that..!
Anyway, some poor actions there too, just done faster, so yeah the pace thing... we'll see how we handle that. That English GK is good... not so much the French one. Stupid, stupid stuff from the English defender in the last action. The goalie had it I think...
As for our match... The Baluta-Puscas linkup was great. Baluta hoofing it upfield... man, he'll be a legend for Brighton soon enough
Baluta, Cicaldau, Puscas and Radu could easily start for the NT. Hagi, Man, Manea also useful given the alternatives but not sure they are fully ready yet.
Normally I'd say LB is our weak spot but Stefan did really well tonight.
Nedelcearu - Pascanu - Baluta seemed to have a communication issue at the HR goal. In fact I didn't like Baluta's defending in the first half, just seemed too slow (again, that pace question GICA(?) brought up).
Cicaldau -> could be a problem, one of our best men... Nedelcu can't replace him, neither can Dragomir or Ciobanu yet... Would be a HUGE loss. Probably my fav U21 player if I'm allowed to pick one.
Pascanu -> I don't know about Rus at this level. Maybe try Baluta as CD if need be.
Man -> not all that useful today along with Ivan. We still need his best game. Would be replaced with Coman or Olaru if need be.
They posted a tactical analysis video in the Croatian forum... can't understand much Croatian but i'll try to take a look.
Weird game indeed.
First half: lots of individual mistakes by both sides. In the 2nd, we did better, played safer but Croatia still had some bloopers.
We did a good game overall and a 4-1 win in a final tournament... isn't something we've ever seen from a Romanian NT.
But I'm not sure if this will be enough. I think we played better in the qualifiers. That said, I'm not sure we can be considered outsiders either. We played England a while ago, away, and only lost 2-1, and I don't think it was the whole first team for us. A draw wouldn't be unexpected and since this team tends to *over* perform... we may just eliminate England outright.
The worst part about England losing though is that we have to be the best second placed to advance to the Olympics. So at least 6p, considering Spain should make easy work of their opponents.
Congrats to the boys. Let's beat England. Our top squads always have... and I trust this group.
I really tried to take a day off from work today but, alas, I couldn't. So, I had to follow the game from work whenever I had the chance. I'm not surprised at all by the victory, we have a very good generation. And I'm sure they'll do very well against both France and England.
If you manage to find a link for the full game, please let me know.
Let's beat England. Then France. Then Spain. Then Italy.
Then we can think what's left to do
Damn...the positive thing I see is that we'll face and England that desperately needs to win, while a draw help us. If we can play quietly we can take advantage of that. But of course if we choose to defend it'll be a nightmare
Also, the english had to play a lot with 10 men, so they'll be more tired than us
|GICA||It will be terrible against both teams. They are super strong and super fast. They play in a different pace than Romania or Croatia.|
|forestasuceava||Unlucky, France gets the 1-2... they seem to be the better team|
|Hagibest||Wow 2-1 for France, two goals in the last minutes. They missed a penalty too though, and Iím sure that early red card didnít help England either.. not the greatest result for us but if we can get something against them we surely have a shot.|
|GICA||Shit, England lost.|
