Sensi won us the Scudetto, well done. And almost another the year after. The the banks came knocking. We were in such a bad shape they lied together a story that they got frauded one year when we needed a bank warranty to qualify for upcoming season of Serie A. Thank god Lega Calcio let us play. I remember when we tried to buy players clubs wanted a warranty so they knew they would get paid. I remember when we couldn't buy players bc Sensis cheated with transfers.
Thank god for the good old times.

|Primo||Talk sh!t all you want about the Sensis if it makes you feel good while Rome burns. Season ended and we have no coach, no DS, Dzeko gone for 13 m to a direct rival and no replacement, Manolas rumored to leave and many others, all with no credible or set up replacements. Now go print out Pallotta's little letter and hang it on your wall.|

it was indeed a huge achievement, especially considering the factors you mentioned and Roma of the 90's.
however, the Sensis got that trophy without any plan or means to sustain that success and then used Roma as their piggy bank to recoup what they spent, cover the debts of Italpetroli and turn a profit.
you and I both, Primo, were here on this very forum the two times Totti threatened the Sensis to spend on good players or send him to Madrid. there was no FFP to contend with back then and they still did not bring in quality or hold on to quality.

They are very overrated.>>
What a truly pathetic statement. Roma winning a scudetto in the modern age is a bigger achievement than Italy winning the World Cup. Overcoming the rotten northern favoritism, the politics, the Milans and Juve and the other sisters of calcio back then was an achievement for the ages. You should bow down at the mantle of the Sensis for sacrificing what they did and putting us on top, if only for a brief moment. But instead you post this bs. If you're gonna spread mathematics, spread it right.

and back when Sensi owned the club FFP did not exist, and it would've been bad business to offload Totti or DDR. keeping in mind Sensi was going to offload DDR to Man U and it was DDR who chose not to at the last minute after a sleepless night. I've also made it clear that I don't understand or agree with the way the management handled De Rossi's situation, it's disastrous to say the least.
and to be honest, after rethinking it, I don't think the fans hold much sway in the decision making process to be much of a hindrance for Pallotta, but I remain frustrated by the overwhelming majority's way of viewing the situation.
I don't know how the current situation (almost certainly missing CL, no coach, no DS, the mishandling of DDR) is in your opinion getting butt sore over nothing, and I don't know how I can be both a Roma supporter and anti-Roman.
I don't know why you find my point of view so offensive that you had to response in such a manner, however I guess I'll take your graceful invitation to have it and I hope the that I don't think I need to further explain it or express it makes you happy.

You poor fellow. It was the wrong personnel, city and fans holding poor Pallotta back!!!!
If Pallotta owned the club back when Sensi did, he would off-loaded Totti at 22 and DeRossi about the same age, great business!!! But by all means play your zero-sum, BS anti-Roman, pro-business card - an argument you made with yourself because you got butt sore over nothing.

I really don't want to get into all of the details because it'll just depress me more.
the Sensis almost broke Roma before making back the money spent plus more after going public on the borsa and then selling the club (the Sensi family go down in history as having made the single biggest private profit off of A.S. Roma, according to the lawyer who helped Franco Sensi take the club public back in 2000), they won a title and spent years later paying for it in mediocrity before Rosella bailed out.
Pallotta has a big mouth and has idiotic public spats with his current/former employees, and Franco Sensi tried to throw Zeman under the bus publicly over not signing Vieri and publicly announced the signing of ****ing Fabio Junior as the signing that will get Roma a scudetto. and the same Baldini that is cursed out for the DDR situation was there with Capello emotionally blackmailing Franco Sensi into signing Batistuta.
somehow Roma fans look back fondly at those times under the Sensis, the times of Sartor, Carew, Lima, Dellas, Ferrari, Edgar Alvarez, Faty, Nonda, Abel ****ing Xavier and coming dangerously close to going down to Serie B. the times we sold Cassano, Chivu, Aquilani, Emerson and many more core players that we couldn't keep. the times that almost mirror current times with a few minor details, Pallotta is actually trying to make Roma self sufficient and financially stable, Roma for the last 6 seasons never finished below 3rd in the league, Pallotta is American, Totti retired under his watch and he absolutely ****ed up the De Rossi situation. I have personally met the CEO of the company I work at in person 3 times during the 15 years I worked at the company, at no point in that time did that deter me from doing my job or doubt what I was doing, however in the mind of some fans the players are emotionally unstable children that need the club's owner in the stands every home match to be able to feel safe and perform. they need players that cannot add enough on the field but protect their fragile psyches in the locker room.
Romanisti are passionate about their club but they have a strange way of having that passion warp their priorities and the way they view their club's reality, a lot of them are opposing a QSI takeover because it would take away "the soul of the club", they oppose it while still dreaming of titles and being respected in Europe beyond the Barcelona Cinderlla story. again the paradoxically provincial mentality coupled with great aspirations, Romanisti are the original hipsters.
Pallotta had a chance to create something great but has had his ineptitude at times, the wrong personnel, the city and the fans holding him back at every step. and so I'm left frustrated and depressed by the society I chose to join and people running it.

|Primo||Well, there are many Roma fans who are Italian and Roman, and even if they aren't, take pride in having homegrown talent on the field. Like in any sport, locals take pride in their own. Frankly, I would love to have Politano and Romagnoli back right now. If this Roma is being run like a business, then it's a pretty poor business. Pallotta, thankfully, makes nothing I guess, he and his bullshit artist scumbag hedge funders are patron saints for Roma I guess. They've been exposed for the unintelligent idiots they are year after year, they've broken Roma and lost the fans. God bless DeRossi and every player that ever cared about Roma no matter where they are from.|

I wanted to write about this after DDR's press conference but didn't have the time and then felt defeated and depressed after the match on Saturday.
I have rid myself of the ROMANticism and provincial thinking that paradoxically is coupled with European aspirations that are the hallmarks of most Romanisti a good while back before the American takeover. maybe it's my pessimism, pragmatism or that I'm 0% Italian, but I stay emotionally invested in this club without having any qualms with it being run like a business, because it should be run like a business and it should make its owners money.
I know for a fact because of the figures involved that Palota doesn't make anything off of selling players, and I understand that they want to build a project while fighting against FFP and Roma's municipality's corruption. I don't care if the players we have aren't as crazy as us or the Romanos in the squad (or the adopted Romanos) about the club and the crest, as long as they're professional and conduct themselves that way during their time at the club.
and just like De Rossi said, if contract renewals were left up to aging players they, more often than not, will renew beyond the point they should quit at. and you can't blame them as this is how they identify themselves and what they did since they were children, it's scary to change that and try to redefine yourself, especially if you were successful at it. and so I understood Totti's feelings but still sided with the management that decided he wasn't up for it anymore but still wanted his influence, so they offered him a job.
I understood what the management was trying to do and could stand behind it even if in hindsight they've made mistakes.
however, the DDR thing happened and I just can't wrap my head around how poorly it was handled.
we don't have a coach or a DS yet, so why decide to not renew DDRs contract? and if this hasn't been a hastily made decision, why not let the player know from the start of the season so he and the fans can come to terms with it? there's a measure of disrespect in the action that cannot be stomached, and then you see the player that the action was taken against and the disgust is amplified. Daniele handled this with the grace, dignity and class you expect from a player with the character to go to the ref and confess that he scored a goal with his hand, even though the ref didn't see it and the goal was allowed. he was within his right to at least harshly criticize the management, however he was a bigger person than any of them and used the press conference to try and calm things as much as possible in the storm that he didn't create and that had other moving parts he had nothing to do with.
so, we're out of CL, no one wants to coach us, it appears the management burnt the bridge between them and the one person we could count on to coach us, we have no DS and now the management fumbled De Rossi's situation making us a very unattractive place to work at, and I am left bewildered.
I don't know if I managed to convey my thoughts and feelings well, because I think they are not well defined yet and because English isn't my first language. anyway I've never felt as tired in my 20+ years following this club, nor felt as big of a void.

Gasperini in Roma sounds good on paper but in reality, he demands that his players run like insane on the pitch, hench the success with Atalanta and i don't think we have those players to make him work so i agree.
Intertoto, lol, haven't heard that word for ages.
|May 17th, 2019 01:04|
|Primo||DeRossi will always be remembered with affection and respect in Rome. Pallotta should seriously think about selling the club and leaving. He can't recover from this. Go hide in Boston and count your change. Soon, I expect Dzeko, Manolas, Under and others to be sold, likely to some of our direct rivals. Gasperini will coach us to an Intertoto spot|
