A trip to New York - part II

The airport was a bit of a maze and I wasnt exactly sure where I had to go for the exit. After asking directions a few times and being told that if I just followed the signs that said exit I would be fine, I managed to find the way out.

Having finally found the exit, I found myself in the dark yet again. But this time because it was still dark outside. Fortunately, because of the early hour, there wasnt a line for the taxis so I was handed my ticket and got in the first one...

A trip to New York - part I

As I got off the plane I wondered if my papers would be in order.

Having heard stories about a super strict entry procedure I had made sure to fill in the visa waiver documents in the clearest print as I could manage on board a shaking airplane. However, before I even got to customs I had to wait in a line that was growing by the minute.

Daylight Saving Time

At the end of March many countries set their clocks an hour forward again. Some call it summer time, some call it daylight saving time, but what it really should be called is a waste of energy.

And that while the whole idea was actually supposed to save energy. The thinking behind it is that if it's still light outside, there is no need to turn on the lights yet and thus save energy. Which sounds reasonable. But is it?

Santino 'Sonny' Corleone was the best Don!

There! I said it.

Vito and Michael were too diplomatic. Sonny kicked ass. Only he realized the way forward. Had he not been killed, the family would never have gotten to the point where it was in part III. They would have owned the commission by then.

Michael, as Vito before him, was too concerned with building a respectable imagine of himself and the family business. Whereas Sonny knew where he came from and didn't try to deny his roots.

Wooden shoes

There are only a few countries in the world where people wear wooden shoes. And I happen to live in one, Holland.

In the past it was the footwear of choice for just about everyone. These days the wooden shoe is mostly used by farmers and construction workers. They have distinct advantages over modern footwear in the (working) environment of those people.

Farmers usually walk around on soggy grass. For that wooden shoes are excellent because the wet grass would ruin...
