Purchasing a new football...

I need some advice on buying a new football. I want a smaller ball for refining technique, practising skills. Not a full-size match ball.

Should I purchase a futsal type ball? They're smaller, or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Why would you do that? You play 5 on 5? If you do, buy a 4... but if you play regular football... just buy a 5 man.

A smaller ball improves your touch more than a size 5. I play all sorts of football, but regardless of whether someone plays 11 vs 11 or 5 vs 5, training with a smaller ball definitely helps. I'm just seeking advice if anyone recommends any particular ball, or if a futsal ball would be a good idea to buy...

Dude, I have been playing since I was born... a smaller ball does not help you in touch what so ever. Its just like when they say shoes help you... its bs. Just buy a 5.

Depends on how your going to play the game Rod. Get a futsal ball if your gonna have mates who'll play the game with you. It will improve your technique if done properly. If not, get a normal ball, and use your available time to practice on your technique.

I don't know about all this new technology myself, Tom Finney played with a tin can, that's if he were lucky.

Scrounge nothing. Tramps don't give anything for nothing. A square meal, and a bottle of bourbon, and you've got yourself a tin can.

I would not get a futsal ball; I believe they are heavier than a regular ball so that might screw up touch.

As for a smaller ball; it can help with technique. The brazilian academies have their kids doing it so there must be something to it. George Best used to play kick hte ball against the wall with a tennisball.

I forgot about this thread. Weeks ago I bought one of those mini-skills balls (size 1). It's pretty fun to play with and took some getting used to. I cant tell if it helps much because lately I've rarely had the chance to play more 'proper' football with a 'proper' sized ball.

I'd recommend one anyway. They do take more skill to do certain skills. Balancing one on your foot is more difficult, ball-juggling not as easy. That's what I mainly use it for, tricks and skills that refine ball control/technique. Due to it's smaller size I can get away with messing around with it in my bedroom.

Check out this video of Ronaldinho with a skills ball:
