The best team you ever played in?

Mine was the Enfield City U19 team in 2003. We were the only team in the entire club that even got close to winning a trophy where we won the State Youth Cup and finished third in the league. We scored a lot of goals and conceded stupid amounts (I think we ended up with close to 70 goals conceded but we scored over 100) due to our 4-1-2-3 formation. Here's the lineup we played:

------------------McMurray----------------------
-----Svizvkovic---Daniels---Maric---N. Hossam----
--------------------Me---------------------------
-----------Szczurowski-----------Jones-----------
----A. Hossam----Bedford------Tsorkoraklidis------

What a team .

Good thread!

The best team I ever played in was our 2002 city championship winning side. Magnificent coaching, wonderful pace, great defense, it was all around wonder. Pity I wasn't a better player then, as I didn't get to play as much as I would have now.

---------------------------------Zach----------------------------------------
-----?---------------------------Beckett-----------------------------Liles-----
---------------------------------Will Griffin------------------------------
--Tim Brooks-----------TomMarlow--------Florez/Fuson/Me---------Ekstam-
------------------------Danny Collins---------Tim Griffin------------------

What a team. Will Griffin was the defensive linchpin, as his brilliant tackling stopped many attacks dead in their tracks. Marlow is a great player, fast, and incredibly two footed. In our city final he struck the bar from 40 metres with his left (weaker) foot. Sensational. Collins scored all of the goals. When it came to city playoffs, he scored all five in a 5-0 victory over Catholic, a first half hat trick in the 3-1 semifinal win, and the second goal in our 2-0 win in the final. (Marlow had the first with a deflected strike) The game itself was terrible, pouring rain, wind terrible, and temperatures around 40 Farenheit. We won the game though, it was awesome. Afterwards we all slid on the wet ground face first, great stuff.

one year we won the league championship with a pretty solid team, a good bunch of guys.. the coach had some crazy tactic that doesn't make sense in real soccer but in canada anything works. anyways, this formation only works when you ahve the right people in the right places.

----------JD----------
--SD-----JG-----JR---
-----ME-----PL-------
---------RK----------
---ML----------DK---
----MS-------BS-----

we won a lot of highscoring games, but we also conceded quite a bit. some games we'd draw 5-5 or 4-4, but we were the comeback champions

technically and tactically the other teams were way better but our striker scored 25 that season, over 12 games, and or CMs and AM scored a bunch too, so we won through workrate and pure attack.

Carlisle Chargers U14

Undefeated Season, 45-0 including all regular season, exhibition, tournaments, provinicial and city games.

We recieved gold in all 3 tournaments we entered, became City Champions and then went on to capture the Provincial title.

Biggest win was 16-0 in the regular season, tightest game was at Provincials in the semi-final against a team from Calgary when 'Moe' scored a penalty shot to take us to the final.

I was fortunate to be an assistant captain on the team and had the honor of raising (with the other captain) the provincial trophy. I collected 39 goals that season, and whole lotta assists.

Yeah, we pinched Con away from Adelaide Olympic (they're a Greek club). He was a good player, very quick and had a great cross.

Ahmed and Nassir. Lebanese (I think) twins. Nassir used to go out with a girl____friend of mine, he was a good guy. Funny guy too. Ahmed though, was a prat and nowhere near as good as his brother.

Really had to make that clear that she wasn't your gal, didn't you?

It sounds like you had a lot of diversity within your team, Khimik, did that affect your team in any way?

Nah, we were all pretty good mates. Most of us had the thing in common that we were all born in Europe and felt closer because of that. For the most part we'd been a team since U10 level with a few exceptions - our Greek player, Con Tsorkoraklidis was bought from Adelaide Olympic and Davor Maric came from Croatia Raiders when he was cut. Our team was like this:

Colin McMurray (Australian born Scot)
Dejan 'DJ' Svizvkovic (Serb)
Chris Daniels (English)
Davor Maric (Croat)
Nassir Hossam (Lebanese or Egyptian, I forget which)
Moi (English)
Dariuz Szcurowski (Pole)
Callum Jones (Welsh)
Ahmed Hossam (see Nassir)
Shaun Bedford (English)
Con Tsorkoraklidis (Australian born Greek)

With subs of:

Ricardo 'Ricky' Sosa (Australian born Portuguese)
Talcay 'Tom' Salak (Turk)
Chris Muller (Australian born German)
Alex Peters (Australian)
David Finnegan (Australian)
Theo Papadopolous (Australian born Greek)

And some others I forget. We were a close team. We played good, honest attacking football. Had a great team spirit - sort of an all for one, one for all type of attitude. The only time someone had a go at another was whem he was bitching in the change room and someone slapped him in the head p

It's a shame a lot of us had to leave through injury (Sosa, Jones and Me), moving to other teams (McMurray) and moving elsewhere (Con - went back to Greece, last I heard he was thinking of trying out for Olympiakos; and Muller - moved to Sydney). Last season we finished dead last and won three games .

I miss playing with them.

That's amazing. I think it'd be absolutely sensational to play in a team with that much diversity. Was language ever a barrier?

It seems as if the natural Aussies were the worst players within the team, haha, .

Looking back at your lineup, Khimik, were you the defensive midfielder within that team?

it's about the same in canada, my area is pretty diverse, thats not exactly the best sometimes, as different ethnicities have different traits, and they can't sort out their differences. In the end it just brings the team down. What looks good on paper may not be the best in actuality(not your team Khimik, i mean in my area)

Could be at times as some of them struggled with several words, but for the most part we all came here when we were younger. Plus, as Naybet says "the only language you need to play is the language of football". p

I don't think they were/are as passionate about football as we are. Their first sport is Aussie Rules, ours isn't. None of them followed football outside of playing whereas we do/did.

I guess it's just a cultural difference.

Yep. I basically acted as a third centre back most of the time but I still liked getting forward whenever i could. I'm a bit like Vieira, I guess. I can win the ball well and like to release it.
