Re: USA v. Japan result Jan. 12
I went to yesterday's match and have to say that I was not very impressed with how the U.S. played, especially the goalkeepers. Siri Mullinix and LaKeysia Beene played 45 minutes each and were both lucky to escape without having had Japan score goals against them. The most impressive goalkeeper that I saw play against Japan this week was Melissa Moore who shut out Japan for 60 minutes last Thursday in a scrimmage played up the University of California at San Diego. Moore made several world class saves and played absolutely flawlessly.
Moore has been one of the top goalkeepers in the WUSA the past two seasons and she deserves a chance to play for the National Team. Siri Mullinix and Briana Scurry have had their chances and I don't think that the U.S. will win the 2003 World Cup with either of them playing in goal. Another goalkeeper who deserves a chance to play for the National Team is Kristin Luckenbill who won the WUSA goalkeeper of the year award and won the WUSA Championship playing in goal for the Carolina Courage.
