Three more national players received invitations from WUSA after five Chinese players, Sun Wen, Gao Hong, Fan Yunjie, Liu Ailing and Wen LiRong, arrived in the USA last week.
The three players are Beijing Chengjian defender Li Jie, Hebei Xinao defender Wang Liping and PLA forward Bai Jie. They received invitations from San Francisco, Atlanta and Washington respectively.
As for this new opportunity for playing in the WUSA, national defender Li Jie said, "I cannot play abroad now. The invitation proves my ability. But as a new comer in the national team, I must put China's interest first. I believe that I will have new opportunities in the future."
Wang Liping and Bai Jie refused to be interviewed.
China national head coach Ma Yuanan said, "We are preparing for 2003 World Cup and 2004 Olympic Games. They have little opportunity of playing in WUSA." Because of the veterans' absence, Ma enlisted several younger players in the team.
China's ninth national games will be held in Guangdong this year. As the key players of their clubs, they have to try their best to train for the upcoming games.
Ma Yuanan is desparate to keep his young brood and who can blame him? I have always liked Bai Jie. Her style of play is similar to Cindy Parlow except Bai is faster
One player I do wish to see in WUSA is Liu Ying. She's at her peak right now (top goalscorer last season in the Chinese League) and will definitely benefit from WUSA. Then again Ma will never let her leave.
