Norway beat Sweden 2-1 in their first women´s internatonal of the year played in La Manga Spain. Last time the Scandinavians played each other was a pre-olympic game before the Olympics in Australia. Sweden then won.

Norway always scores an early goal before the Swedes have organized themselves, and Kristin Baekkevold headed 1-0 in the 3rd minute. Sweden introduced two forwards Hanna Ljungberg and Elin Flyborg who both got free in front of Norwegian keeper Bente Nordby in the first half but failed toscore. Norway used three forwards Margunn Haugenes, Dagny Mellgren and Anita Rapp. Hanna Ljungberg was trapped when Sweden got a PK in the 51st minute. Elin Flyborg scored the equalizer. However only 4 minutes later Dagny Mellgren headed 2-1 for Norway. Dagny was the winning-goal scorer against USA in the Olympic final.

This match against Sweden was the first for the new Norwegian head coach Age Steen. He has replaced Per Mathias Hoegmo, who now is responsible for Norway's U-21 Men´s National team. Norway missed a few of their Olympic gold medalists, Göril Kringen, who is recovering from a foot surgery, fellow defender Gro Espeseth and forward Marianne Pettersen.

Team Sweden is still headed by Marika Domanski-Lyfors who presented 6 debutantes during the match. Malin Andersson, Cecilia Sandell and ÅsaLönnqvist are among those who were not there.
