Arsenal, along with former winners Umeå IK and 1. FFC Frankfurt plus Brøndby IF and Kolbotn IL, are excused from the first qualifying round. They will join the tournament in the second qualifying round as seeds for the four groups: Brøndby and Kolbotn will be in one group, while Arsenal, Umeå, and Frankfurt will head up the other three groups.

The 40 other sides, including for the first time representatives from Georgia and Malta, have been drawn into 10 groups of four. They will play in the first qualifying round, August 9-11-14, in a single round-robin tournament hosted by one of the teams in each group.

The ten group winners and the one best runner-up will advance to the second qualifying round, 11-13-16 October, along with the five seeded teams named above.

The top two from each of the four groups will progress to the two-legged quarter-finals on 14/15 and 21/22 November, 2007.

The semi-finals are scheduled for 29/30 March and 5/6 April 2008, and the final on 17 and 24 May.

For details of the groups, visit the UEFA site.

Schedule and Results, First Round.

small correction: they are the most famous women's football team but not necessarily the best.
