Everton will savour European football for the first time next season after beating Chelsea 4-0 to finish second in the Women's Premier League.

The Toffees join champions Arsenal in Europe after the Gunners qualified by winning the Uefa Cup last month.

Arsenal became the first team to go through a top-flight season with a 100% record after trouncing Leeds 6-0, Kelly Smith hitting four goals.

Charlton won 2-0 at Bristol Academy but had to settle for third place.

Everton Ladies 4 Chelsea 0 (20th May 07)

Everton 4-0 Chelsea
Evans 10, McDougall 35, Handley 52, Easton 57

Everton went into this afternoons game knowing that a draw would secure them the runners-up spot in the league. The first ten minutes were a bit scrappy though as Chelsea closed down at the back hoping to avoid a repeat of the mauling they got from Charlton on Friday.

On ten minutes though Michelle Evans stole in tip a Jody Handley free kick into the net and from there things settled down. Jill Scott was full of running as was Fara Williams and Evans and they created a good few chances with Unitt and Jody Handley both coming close. Chelsea almost got back into it when a Brown kick out came off a Chelsea attacker resulting in both of them grappling on the ground like a scene from 'Battledome' but a free kick was eventually awarded. As the half came to an end, a shot come cross from Kelly NcDougall before the break caught out the keeper and the Toffees were two up. She tried the same trick a minute or so later but the keeper was alive to it this time and it was 2-0 at half time.

A few minutes into the second half and Everton were 3-0 up when Jody got in on a loose ball and her shot was deflected over the keeper. They had other chances before Faye McCoy and Becky Easton came on late in the half. Faye had a good shot turned past the post then got close to a tap in. Easton though finished it off with an overhead kick to round off the scoring at 4-0. Chelsea came close to getting a goal back but it wasn't to be.

Charlton managed to win they're game 2-0 but it wasn't enough and Everton took second spot. So they have a place in the UEFA Women's Cup for the first time. There was some doubt about it but it seems definate now with Fara Williams complaining about the lack of match programmes said, 'they'll need to get them for next season now that we are in Europe.'
