Does the advent of crowd violence to women's soccer mean that the sport has finally come into its own?

The African women's championship final in Pretoria was abandoned after 72 minutes, with Nigeria leading South Africa 2-0. Nigeria was awarded the championship.

There were 25,000 fans in attendance and police used tear gas to quell fighting and bottle-throwing.

Has anyone here heard of that happening before at a women's game? I't a new one on me.
