Over the next few days we will learn the nicknames of each team. In the interim, I eagerly await the appearance of the name Gao Hong , my favorite goal-keeper from China.

Whatever happened to the proposed Womens Elite Soccer Association (WESA)? It was supposed to be a new pro league starting in 2001, but I haven't heard anything about it.

Anybody know?

Hmmmm, the Bay Area CyberRays have a cool nick along with Sissi, Katia and Chastain !! And the New York Power, well, at least it's my home team and they are lacking a GK ... Gao Hong, come East

The Atlanta Beat have Charmaine Hooper and Philadelphia's Charge got Kelly Smith ...

What do you think of the Teams so far?

New York, Carolina, Bay Area ( "CyberRays"?? ), and Washington appear to be the strongest teams.

I'm conflicted about Atlanta - love Charmaine, hate Briana.
Bonita, I'll trade ya Scurry for Espeseth.

Philadelphia Charge has the niftiest logo.

Check out the WUSA official website for more information.

giglio, Scurry is good but I can never forgive her for denying China in the WWC

I am waiting for perhaps one more international player to arrive in New York.

Bonita, it looks as if you got your wish for Gao Hong!

Three more Canadian internationals (so far) join Charmaine Hooper in the WUSA. Drafted in the 3rd round were:

GK Karina LeBlanc - Boston Breakers
D Sharolta Nonen - Atlanta Beat
M Amy Walsh - Bay Area CyberRays

Source: WUSA website

Addendum-------------------------
Also drafted in the 15th round was Canadian striker Silvana Burtini - by the Carolina Tempest. Burtini was Canada's female player of the year 1998, after scoring 8 goals in the first half of a game against Puerto Rico. Burtini has played the past couple of seasons with the W League's Raleigh Wings, so she will be familiar to the soccer fans of North Carolina.
