Charmaine Hooper (Canada)

Charmaine Hooper is the all-time top scorer on Canada's national team, with 43 goals in 67 appearances. An accomplished professional, she has played for teams in Japan, Norway and Italy, gaining a unique insight into women's soccer from many different cultural perspectives.

Hooper was a star player at North Carolina State, where she made All-American in 1989 and 1990.

This year she was a leading light on the Chicago Cobras, who won the W-1 championship.

When FIFA staged an exhibition game between the USA team and the FIFA All-Stars at the drawing for the 1999 World Cup, Hooper scored both goals for the All-Stars, who won 2-1.

Hooper deserves to be listed with the best women players in the world.

You are absolutely correct, giglio. Charmaine Hooper deserves to be applauded as one of the world's best soccer players. Do excuse my oversight in excluding her.

Hooper did really well in the U.S. and has been a source of inspiration to her Canadian teammates. She is also among the first eight international players who will compete next April in the WUSA, the first professional league in the States.

giglio are you a girl ?? I could have never figured that out, remember we had this hot topic going, and then I went away for a week and it was gone

The Norweigan players mentioned are good but I think that Pettersen and Riise got enough credit in the mid 90's when they both were one of the worlds finest players.

I am glad you are trying to get this forum rolling Bonita, although I am a guy that doesnt appreciate womens soccer much, because I don't find it competetive enough.

but anyway I'll try to support you

In cyberspace I am gender-neutral. I prefer not to have my opinions filtered through other people's prejudices, consciously or subconsciously. No offence to you.
