Canada v. Germany (two friendlies)
Germany visits Canada for two friendly matches: September 1 in Vancouver and September 4 in Edmonton.
At the September 1 match a special presentation will be made to veteran player Andrea Neil by the president of the Canadian Soccer Association, in recognition of her earning her 100th senior-level international cap for Canada. Neil is only the second Canadian (man or woman) to reach this milestone. The first was Charmaine Hooper.
The same match will be the debut appearance for Canada of Martina Franko, who became a Canadian citizen in July. The 29-year-old Franko, born in the United States, played at Colorado College, a NCAA Division I school. Her 107 career goals made her the second all-time scorer in school history.
A versatile player, she can be a striker or a defender. She has been playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps of the W-League since 2003. Her six goals this year helped the Whitecaps to a 13-1 season record. She will likely play on defence against Germany.
Franko and Neil are two of nine Whitecaps on the roster for the Germany matches.
Germany is the 2005 European Champion.
