Ghana take the lead over Senegal, clear penalty kick called when Atsu was taken down by the goalkeeper, coolly converted by Ayew

Ghana is not playing for Ghana due to illness (believed to be malaria)

Yep stupid auto correct on phone

Josh, Algeria and Ghana are probably favorites. Senegal have good team on paper and South Africa could be dangerous as nobody expects them to do much in this group

Moussa Sow with the last kick of the game gives Senegal all three points! Deserved win, classic game of two halves but Senegal absolutely dominated Ghana in the 2nd half

Looks a strong group on paper, to me anyway, I'm no expert on African football. Good opening win for Senegal., I'll catch the highlights later.

Half-time in the Algeria 0-0 South Africa game. Very poor showing from the Algerians with Porto's Brahimi looking particularly uninspired. South Africa had enough chances to be leading.

After a quite boring first half this game came alive in the second. First South Africa scores a futsal style goal and a few minutes later they waste a penalty against the crossbar. Algeria reacts immediately with Slimani seeing his two efforts on goal being miraculously saved by the SA keeper. Game on!

As it happens so many times, a missed pen can give a huge injection of energy to the defending team and Algeria got that. They have turned the game around with two goals in 5 minutes. Algeria leading 2-1 with 15' to play.

Game needed that first goal to "wake up". South Africa will rue the penalty miss and the miss one on one with keeper

Algeria wins 3-1 but their defense looked really dodgy. South Africa was better than expected but their misses costed them at least a point.

Backing Algeria to win the tournament, glad they didn't let me down.

Disappointing showing from Ghana even if there were a few unfamiliar names in their lineup, expected more from them against a fairly inexperienced Senegalese team. Seems like they've fallen from grace after their exploits in South Africa five years ago. Another defeat to Algeria and that's two group stage exits in a matter of months for them. Very disappointing for a team with quite a few good players like Asamoah, Gyan, Ayew, Badu, and Atsu for example.

Senegal were impressive though especially in the second half, might be a dark horse for the cup itself on the basis of this showing. Underestimated them and thought this was just another case of them having good strikers but nothing special at the back but they looked competent all round today. Credit to them.
