Shock of the round. Although FC105 are always present on the continental front (albeit with lack of any significant success) yet for them to trounce HOK is bizarre.

P.S. Forza Interclube I wish they reach the latter stages. A bit odd though that Petro Atletico are absent, which means that they finished outside the top two positions in the league!

That's true, although the relatively bad results of both Cameroon sides against quite weak competition were also surprising.

Petro Atlético was 3rd at last season's Girabola, 5 points behind champions InterClube and 4 behind runner-ups Primeiro de Agosto.

Well done Costa do Sol as well!

Hearts in Champs League battle
in BBC Football

Gabonese military club FC 105 say they are determined to complete an African Champions League victory over former winners Hearts of Oak from Ghana in memory of deceased star Guy Tchingoma.

The footballer collapsed during a national championship match in Gabon this month and died en route to hospital one week before his team-mates stunned visiting Hearts of Oak 3-0 in the first leg.

FC 105 players and officials said the shock first leg triumph in Libreville was in honour of Tchingoma, capped by his country for the first time last September.

Lenga Basto gave the Gabonese a late first half lead and Cedric Mintsa and Juste Otomo struck in the second half to leave Hearts in a precarious position ahead of the return match in Accra on Sunday.

But Ivica Todorov, Bulgarian coach of FC 105, knows the tie is far from over as his team have a woeful away record in the Champions League with just one victory in 14 outings spanning 29 years.

That came against lightweights Fatima Red Devils in the Central African Republic while 11 losses include two against Asante Kotoko on previous journeys to Ghana.

Hearts, winners of the 2000 Champions League, confirmed the appointment of Israeli Eyal Lahman as coach this week as they try to reverse a series of disastrous results at home and abroad.

Hearts chief executive Harry Zakour offered Lahman little sympathy as he officially took charge of the team.

"It is unfortunate that Eyal has to start with this difficult game in the African Champions League, but that is the nature of the job," Zakour said.

"We hope he can quickly restore the confidence of our players."

Al Tahrir have pulled out of the competition a few days ago, so Al Ahly are through to the last 16.

Looking forward to the Zamalek-Africa Sports game tomorrow, also JS Kabylie v AshantiGold should be a good tie.

A great round for Sub-Saharan African football. Only Egypt hold the North African fort. Maybe this is a sign that the axis of African football is again turning south.
