I will be biased on this one and give my vote to Aboutrieka. The number of achievments he has done this year are more than any other candidate, however, the size of the accomplishment is in favour of the others.

Just for a re-cap, here's what he's done in 2006:

With Ahly:

Won the Egyptian League (top goalscorer with 18 goals)
Won the Egyptian Cup
Won the Egyptian Super Cup
Won the African Super Cup
Won the African Champions League (top goalscorer with 6 goals)
Won bronze medal in the Club World Cup (top goalscorer with 3 goals)

With Egypt:

Won the African Nations Cup (scored 2 goals plus tournament-winning penalty)

I have been impressed by Drogba since his times at the OM when he played as the only forward in an ultradefensive lineup but did an excellent job even if he was often left completely alone.

Yet, I voted Essien cause he impressed me in the last world cup. A midfielder with a formidable energy, who should just shoot a bit better (with Italy he shot 12746 times and Buffon just had to save 1 or 2 shots).

The Egyptian Zidane for me.

Be interesting to see him in Europe one day.

He plays for Werder Bremen and has played for Mainz 05 (Germany) and in Denmark.

nah I meant Aboutrika. Thought that was his nick, the Egyptian Zidane.

As for Mohamed Zidan, absolutely no fan of him. I don't really see what the hype about him was all about. Like South Africa's Zuma, he's a player with some nice skills but definitely no top player and never will be.

Even though he got twisted on saturday, it's kolo for me. Just look his year:

African cup of Nations Finalist
Champions league finalist
World cup qualification

He may not have won anything but his presence in all the teams have been very commanding.

Didier next...

Well I'm a Barca fan, Mallorca as well, and that's the last two clubs Eto'o has played for, but I won't vote for him to be player of the year because he's been out injured for so long!
I put Essien third, and had to decide between Abou Trieka and Drogba.
DD got my vote because he's been doing the business in a better league, and almost carrying Chelsea with his goals!
