Here is a space to talk about the campaign of the 2006 African champions in the 2006 World Club Cup that will take place in Japan next month...

Former captain Osama Hosni has recovered from injury to be included in a 24-man squad named by African champions Al Ahly for the World Club Cup in Japan next month.

The Egyptian champions must cut the squad size to 23 before the start of the tournament on Dec 10.

Out through injury is Egyptian international Mohamed Barakat, who missed the second leg of Al Ahly's African Champions League final victory against CS Sfaxien of Tunisia at the start of the month.

It is the second successive year that the Cairo giants will play in the tournament in Japan after losing in the first round last year.

Al Ahly play Oceania champions Auckland City of New Zealand in Toyota on Dec 10 in the tournament's opening match.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Amir Abdelhamid, Essam Al Hadari, Nader El Sayed

Defenders: Mohamed Abdallah, Emad Al Nahhas, Ahmed El Sayed, Islam El Shater, Abdellah Galal, Wael Gomaa, Shady Mohamed, Mohamed Sedik, Ahmed Shedid.

Midfielders: Mohamed Aboutrika, Hossam Ashour, Ahmed Hassan, Akwety Mensah, Hassan Mostafa, Wael Riad, Tarek Said, Ahmed Sedik, Mohamed Shawky.

Strikers: Flávio Amado, Osama Hosni, Emad Moteab.

What teams are confirmed so far (other than Auckland City)? I assume Barcelona from Europe?

Al-Ahly are a good team, and this is pretty much the only time I see them all year, so it should be cool.

I hope it's going to be different this time around.. Being the only club to make it to the WCC again, we're OBLIGED to rectify our image.

Team news

Emad El Nahas (starting sweeper) and Ossama Hosny (third striker, an Ahly youth product) made their comebacks from injury in a league match vs. Suez tonight. Ahly won the game 3-1 at home, goals coming from Mohamed Shawqy, Abo Treika and Emad Moteab.

We'll play one more league game before heading off to Japan. Apparently a friendly vs. a J-league side has been arranged, not sure when.

I'd be satisfied with a victory vs. Auckland City and a decent showing vs. Internacional, providing we get to face them.

They're from Porto Alegre, Brazil.

I reckon y'all should be able to beat Auckland City with few worries. Ahly-Inter should be a great matchup, they're a much weaker squad than when they won the Libertadores Cup, so it should be an fun match.

I think and hope that Al-Ahly can go all the way to the final. To lose against Barcelona will not be a shame and it would be great to see an African club going that far.

The thing in 2005 was the way we won the CAF CL, witout a single defeat. So we went into that first match-up vs Ittihad KSA favoured for a win and the pressure got to the players.

This year however, Manuel Jose is taking a new approach to the tournament. His main goal is to go there, have fun, and enjoy the atmosphere. This way theres no pressure, and I think if we dont get over-confident we can get past Auckland and do something big.

Ahly left Cairo today, they will transit in Dubai before heading to Japan. Also a friendly game will take place vs one of the A-league teams on the 6th.

Btw, Ahly played their last league game yesterday before heading to the WCC and defeated struggling Olympi 5-1.

We also managed to snatch a 1-point advantage over Ismaily and will head to Japan leading the Egyptian League, which is a good morale boost.

Good match by Al Ahly and the team is looking good for Wednesday's game against the South American champions Internacional de Porto Alegre (Brazil).

Al Ahly 0-1 Internacional (HT)

The game was balanced but Al Ahly played better and Abutrika even hit the post. I think with a bit more calm in the last third of the pitch Ahly will manage to score.

Here's the stats at half time:

Al Ahly vs Internacional
Shots:
8 vs 8
Shots on goal:
3 vs 2
Corners:
4 vs 1
Fouls commited:
6 vs 10
Ball possession:
50% vs 50%

Well, the dream is over. Al Ahly fought well and got very close to an historical presence in the final but they were beaten by the Brazilians 2-1. Now let's see if they can get the 3rd place.

Here's the match stats:

Al-Ahly SC
El Hadary (Abdelhamid 82'); El Shater (Ahmed Sedik 75'), Gomaa, Mohamed, El Nahas; Said, Mostafa (Emad Moteab 46'), Ashour, Shawky; Aboutrika and Flávio.

Yellow cards: Gomaa 43', Flávio 58'.

SC Internacional
Clémer; Ceará, Índio, Fabiano Eller, Hidalgo (Rubens Cardoso 65'); Wellington Monteiro, Alex, Edinho; Alexandre Pato (Luiz Adriano 65'), Iarley (Vargas 82') and Fernandão.

Yellow cards: Fernandão 29', Alex 90'.

Al Ahly vs Internacional
Shots:
10 vs 16
Shots on goal:
4 vs 5
Corners:
4 vs 5
Fouls commited:
12 vs 17
Ball possession:
51% vs 49%
