EPL Charity Shield - Rating the Africans

Sunday - August 13, 2006
Liverpool (2-1) Chelsea

Momo Sissoko - Voted MoM, very fitting with his name . This guy seemed to stroll through the game. Dominated the midfield and made his presence felt. I see a HUGE season ahead for Momo. Would LOVE to see his play in the Malian NT.

Drogs - Not much of an impact. Played the suporting striker role quite well.

Essien - Played a more defensive role, as will be expected. Was the sole man ahead of the back four in Jose's lineup. Collecting the scraps seems to be his role. Played well. Would like to see him make more forays upfield

Solomon Kalou - I don't care if he does a 180 turn on CIV...again. My oh my, what talent. This guy has pace and skill. Plays both wings well and runs 'at' opposing defenders. I see him getting more playing time for the Blues.

Geremi - Was suprisingly subbed late in the 2H. Before that, he was having a good game.

Obi Mikel - came on in the 80th min and did not have much time to impact the game. Commentator was full of praise when he entered.

Great to see 6 Africans taking part in a game between 2 of England and Europe's best clubs.

Kalou is definitely a talent, no doubt. The whole Holland/CIV saga has not worked in his advantage, but hopefully he can leave all the bad stuff behind now and concentrate on Chelsea and CIV.

It is fantastic to see Obi Mikel and Salomon Kalou, two of Africa's future hot shots, in one team. Maybe in the coming years, the best team in England will be carried by those two, aided by Michael Essien.

I don't know Sissoko that well to be honest. Can you tell me a bit more about him, because I hear a lot about him these days.

fantastic athlete with good anticipation and fast in the tackle.

go in Pool forum, they have a thread about him.

btw, i thought Kalou was poor but as it's his first game i'll give him the benefit.

Kalou started out well with some exquisite footwork, ghosting past a defender [Riise?] but after that his contribution was patchy.
