This was the initial post in this thread, it relates to matchday 1:

We lost our first African CL match in two years .. Thanks to very poor and biased officiating. Man this continent will never improve with this kind of bias.

Then again, there is this eternal problem with our football where when a home team takes the lead, the ballboys suddenly disappear and the entire remainder of the match is played on one ball only. How come CAF never addresses that.

Anyways.. Group A first matchday results:

Sfaxien 1-0 Ahly
JSK 1-0 Kotoko

Group B:

HOK 0 - 2 Enyimba
Pirates 1-1 ASEC (Tuesday)

Our lineup:

Hadary, Nahas, Goma'a, El Sayed, AboTreka, Hasan Mustafa, Shawky, Tarek El Saeed ( ), Meteb, Flavio ( ), El Shater.

We'll bounce back and I'm pretty confident we'll still win this group. ISA.

Wow, that is almost the whole lineup of Egypt during the ANC isn't it?

More or less, yes. Only El Nahas, El Saeed (new acquisition from rivals Zamalek) and El Shater weren't amongst the Egypt squad. Flavio too, obviously. But he was Angola's leading top scorer with 3 goals so...

The rest were integral to Egypt's success - most notably El Hadary in goal, Goma'a in defence, Abo Treka & Shawqy in midfield and Meteb in attack. Barakat missed the CSS game due to injury and so did Mohamed Abdel Wehab (Egypt's Left-back) who is yet to be registered with Ahly (he was on a 2 year loan from an Emarati club and we haven't agreed terms with them yet, so he didn't even take part in the training camp held in France.)

Anyway, we deserved to lose on Saturday. Blaming the refs for the Tunisian's time wasting antics is useless, we should be used to that crap. Matter of fact is we were way below par and didn't deserve anything from this game.

P.S. ASEC will host Orlando Pirates tomorrow in Abidjan, a repeat of the Champions Cup final in 1995.

Abo Treka was very good during the ANC. He made a big impression on me.

How do you lot rate the African CL actually? How is the level compared to European CL/Libertadores or compared to the African Nations Cup?

Ahly vs JSK review and goals (click on download):

We played a depleted squad and risked the game, but we managed to win. Ahmad Sedeek turned out to be the match start, scoring the first and setting up the second.

Our lineup was Hadary, El Shater, Moh. Sedeek, Wael Gom'a, Ashour, Ahmad Sedeek, Shawky, Hasan Mustafa, Samaka, Hosny, Shdeed Enawy.

Barakat, Abo Treka, El Nahas, Ahmad El Sayed, Tarek El Sa'eed, Flavio, Gilberto, were out due to injury.

Abdel Wahab was out due to his ongoing conflict with Zafra club of UAE over his Ahly contract.

Emad Motaeb and Shady Mohamed were suspended.

Nice win by the Ahly youngsters. I'm dissappointed by JSK's performance because I know with a bit more effort we could have at least collected a point. Now we need to make sure we get all 6 points from our 2 remaining home games and hopefully collect at least 2 points from the remaining 2 away games. It'll be tough to do but not impossible.
