Essien was great but he is an already established player. Other than him, I can not think of any player that I thought was great. Most of the african teams had strikers that could not really produce an end result. I have to admit though, Ghana was a fun team to watch. Their passing was just amazing.

Zokora has moved to the Premier League and Yaya Toure looks likely to follow, so these 2 could potentially become big stars in the not so far away future.

Hmm, I am thinking of:

John Mensah (GHA)
Baky Koné (CIV) if he gets the nod over Arouna Koné and Bona Kalou that is, since he is by far the most talented to accompany Drogba
Oba Martins (NGR) has to be. He has to prove it at the next WC or he will end up as an everlasting prospect
John Obi Mikel: He will be great, greater than Okocha even I feel

I thought Appiah was magnificent in Germany. I liked what I saw of Ziad Jaziri as well. Both should move to better leagues because they deserve better.

Obi Mikel's maturity at such a tender age is incredible. He'll make headlines (for all the good reasons this time around ) very soon.

Appiah was great indeed. How old is he now? I omitted him from my list because I thought that he would be a bit older in 2010 actually. He was imo the best African player of the tournament, absolutely magnificent.

You mean Boakye of Ajax, mamamia? He played in the last part of the season for us. I was pretty impressed with him, but unfortunately for him, Ajax has bought the Romanian international Ogararu for the right-back spot. I think they find Boakye to be too young right now.

ASEC Abidjan has a good academy.

They produced Didier Zokora.

The academy was build in 1994 by the frenchman Jean-Marc Guillou and you have to admit so far the results have been amazing.

"I never knew my birth parents. There was a car accident. my birth mother was incinerated, and I only survived because her smoking carcass had formed a protective cocoon of slaughtered human effluence. A Belgian man and his fifteen year-old love slave were looting the accident scene, came across a blood soaked baby, moi, and they raised me to be evil."

you should read in the future stars column. Chinedu Ogbuke is from Nigeria a year older than mikel but super talent. plays in norway and has been dominating the league this autumn scoring some crackers, he is by far the fastest player in norway, technique good shot but a good footballing brain so he is not selfish a team player of extreme individual ability. Plays like Henry but of course to early to say he will become a star
