Aussie FA Cup

Theres always a lot of talk about this topic in Australian football however it is mainly amongst football fans.

Since i lost my foxtel i havent been too up to date with Australian football so much so what is the FFA's latest stance on launching a kind of FA cup where the state league teams can have a go at the A-league teams when something is on the line?

I think this will really test the credentials of the A-league. It will determine whether it is a failure or a success in term of both fans and quality of football. Maybe the FFA are too scared to find this out just yet:rollani:

I would really love to see it though as i still believe that the getting rid of the NSL ruined football culture in Australia and stunted the grow of young footballers.

My opinion is that FFA wants to have a state level cup, but without including the current existing winter clubs.

I think that their reason for wanting a state level cup is the fact that the attendance is falling rapidly as we can see from the previous season to this season. They want to "create" something new to generate interest again to the league. Why I don't think they would include the winter clubs is that they are now planning on creating zonal based clubs to play in summer, as seen in Victoria and their Victorian Champions League. FNSW's situation right now might also be a plan to create something similar in NSW and with that, I believe the stage is set to have all these new clubs competing in the FFA Cup.

Sounds lame.

The FFA are trying to take all the passion and culture out of Aussie football.

On a smaller scale, there's going to be a state level cup in Victoria ala Dockerty Cup, renamed Mirrabella Cup due to them being the major sponsor committing for 10 years. Teams from the region can register and pay to participate, prize pool is $50000 to be divided by the top 4.

FFA apparently doesn't want Victory and Heart to participate in the Mirrabella Cup, so no A-League teams will participate in it.

If this was introduced it would screw up all the work they've been trying to do for the past 4-5 years.

Got a survey mail from the FFA regarding the FFA Cup, with a horrendous set of questions TBH...

"Now I would like you to think of an FFA Cup competition and what you personally think is important for the image of the competition."

With the usual strongly not important to strongly important radio button thingy. You can combine it to have international family friendly commercialised violence, cool and magical, etc, etc

I don't read any of their emails but I'll look at this one since you guys mentioned it.

Just tried the survey, got halfway through and I started to get dizzy, it's too late at night to be reading that sort of drivel that just doesn't make any sense. Do I want to think of associating the A-League with the word Stylish .. what?

The semi-finalists of the inaugural FFA Cup are Adelaide United, Central Coast Mariners, Perth Glory and Bentleigh Greens.

Draw to be conducted tomorrow night.

Only one real shock in the Cup with Adelaide City beating the Wanderers a few rounds ago
