Naomi Wolf did an oopsie

Hilarious stuff (not in a mocking way of course), the calm voice of the interviewer makes it even more funny. It's also sad of course that an esteemed figure like Naomi Wolf did so poorly when it came to research, makes one wonder if there are issues with her PhD thesis as well.

Twitter

Another funny tidbit that I'd never heard of was that Al Gore hired Naomi Wolf to help him become an alpha male for the 2000 presidential election.

Quote:
Wolf, a bestselling author in the 1990s, was known as a feminist guru who spearheaded Vice President Al Gore’s attempted “alpha male” makeover ahead of the 2000 presidential election, which Gore lost narrowly to President George W. Bush.

ďWell, thatís a really important thing to investigate.Ē

Didn't you just write a book on the subject?

And then the interviewer says that the information is readily available on the Old Bailey's website.

This is PhD level pwnage!

they weren't too impressed with her previous book either:

Published in 2012 on the topic of the vagina, Vagina: A New Biography was widely criticized, especially by feminist authors. Calling it "ludicrous" at Slate.com, Katie Roiphe wrote, "I doubt the most brilliant novelist in the world could have created a more skewering satire of Naomi Wolf's career than her latest book."[48] In The Nation, Katha Pollitt said the book was "silly" and contained "much dubious neuroscience and much foolishness"; she concluded, "It's lucky vaginas can't read, or mine would be cringing in embarrassment."

Yeah, where's Laura Loomer when you need her?

She might also take this yoga class in Seattle (sold out, but there's a waiting list):

https://www.rainierbeachyoga.com/undoing-whiteness/

Undoing Whiteness

Are you a white person wanting to unpack the harmful ways white supremacy is embedded in your body, mind and heart?

Are you looking for an embodied approach to racial and social justice?

Are you craving a spiritual community where oppression and privilege can be addressed with compassion and honesty?

This awareness-building exploration is for white people to begin or continue the work of looking into the ways whiteness is conditioned within us as well as committing to an action we want to bring out into the world supporting racial justice.

In this class we will:

* have a discussion around the pathology of whiteness and how contemplative practices can be supportive tools to navigate looking at our conditioning with fierce compassion
* practice tools of embodiment to understand how this lives not only in our psyches but also in our physical bodies
* meditate to understand how the mind is affected by whiteness, as well as how the mind can be a tool to counteract whiteness with awareness and humanity
* share an action we plan to commit to in order to support our desire for racial justice in our communities
* Use Shelly Tochluk’s book Witnessing Whiteness as a guide for our work. Reading is recommended, but not required.

Dates for 2019 (please note each class is different and you are welcome to come to one or all)
2nd Wednesday of month
June 12 (SOLD OUT. Email [email protected] to be put on the waitlist)

So what's the bright side?

Well, they've shown entrepreneurial spirit in monetizing white guilt.

And they've thrown up a litmus test for those professing to have white guilt: put your money where your mouf is.

I'm interested to see the results. And by results, I mean real results. Okay fine, Mori's post made me look deeper. I looked at Saira Rao's Kickstarter for the funding of feminist authors and I find it really hard to believe that, of the 305 backers that helped her team surpass its funding goal, only one left a comment? And the comment was merely to congratulate the team on being successfully funded. No comments about receiving the stretch goal rewards, asking about delivery dates or anything else at all. This is beyond strange for a Kickstarter project for this kind of amount and with this many backers.

Seems safe to conclude they never actually got funded by people at arm's-length.

Verdict: BUSTED!

I'm glad. I can't think of any better way to address social injustice than helping a middle-class cisgender white womxn become upper-class while she appropriates Indian culture for commercial gain.

It's ironic that Saira Rao and not the targetted white audience would have the ethnic credentials for participating in the yoga class.

I'm also not sure her friend Carey - who also likes talking and btw did I mention has a graduate degree - should be eating green curry. Wine for an Indian? Ok, I guess. From the kickstarter bio:

Quote:
Carey and Saira met at The University of Virginia where they discovered a shared sense of humor and a fondness for talking. They grew up and got graduate degrees and had babies. One day, over wine and green curry, they decided to write something together

Setback in the War on Bakers.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/obe...cial-profiling

Oberlin College to pay bakery $11M after furthering racism accusations (encouraged boykot and protests after black student had tried to steal wine and assaulted owner with two friends).

Meredith Raimondo, vice president and dean of students. Hobbies include privilege yoga and inviting Womxn of Color on 'shame me' dates.

She was appointed in july 2016 so it didn't take her long to make her mark (protests took place in autumn same year):

https://www.oberlin.edu/news/meredit...-dean-students

Quote:
Meredith Raimondo has been appointed vice president and dean of students after filling the position on an interim basis since July 2016.

As dean of students, Raimondo will lead Oberlin’s division of student life that supports students by creating more seamless connections between curricular and cocurricular experiences, advising and mentoring focused on the development of life skills and interpersonal and personal growth, and building and bridging intellectual and personal communities. She previously served as special assistant to the president for equity, inclusion, and diversity and Title IX coordinator.

“Meredith has done a superb job as interim dean,” says Oberlin College President Marvin Krislov. “Because of her years as a professor, she has a deep connection to our faculty and to our students. There is a widespread feeling among all our stakeholders that Meredith is the best possible person for this job, and we're all thrilled she has agreed to do it.”

Raimondo joined the Oberlin community in 2003, as one of the professors in the newly formed Department of Comparative American Studies. She has taught courses spanning the themes of gender and sexuality, race and ethnicity studies, social justice, and HIV/AIDS. In 2014, she was recognized with an Excellence in Teaching Award and later that year was appointed special assistant to the president for diversity, equity, and inclusion and Title IX coordinator, a position for which she oversees institutional policy to ensure all students’ needs are being met under Title IX guidelines. She earned a bachelor of arts degree at Brown University and master’s and doctorate degrees at Emory University.

Politics major Thobeka Mnisi ’18 favors the selection of Raimondo as vice president and dean of students. “I strongly support the appointment of Dean Raimondo. For me, this past semester made apparent the need for brave leadership at Oberlin College. In my working with her, Dean Raimondo has demonstrated this bravery by constantly recognizing ways in which Oberlin can improve, rather than conveniently presenting a facade of greatness that isn't always true. She doesn't defend policies when they fail students, and her commitment to transparency is very refreshing.

"I think the Dean of Students has to be deeply committed to the pursuance of social justice even when it is inconvenient, speak truth even when it is risky, and always consider the concerns of students with patience and true openness. Dean Raimondo will be able to guide the student body well, because she embodies these characteristics,” says Mnisi.
