2011 Copa America Final: Uruguay vs. Paraguay (July 24, 2011)

I know it is a bit early but we will be finding out the second competitor for the final tonight. With that being said, Urugay made it to the final last night by defeating Peru, 2-0. I think the final will be more exciting than all the other games in this tournament.I'm thinking Paraguay win their semifinal to set up a Uruguay-Paraguay final.

All discussion before the match, during the match, etc. go here.

I'm pretty sure someone will make an official thread or change the name of this one, one of the two.

I want to add to Sac's thread.

For the record, Paraguay and Uruguay split their legs during the last WC2010 QF.

So it will be interesting this time around to see how they both do in Argentina.

Valdez sealed the leg in Paraguay in a 1-0. While Lugano and Forlan helped Uruguay achieve a 2-0 in Uruguay.

I think this time around, Uruguay are easily the better team. They are firing on all cylinders and Suarez can't be stopped. Forlan and Cavani are doing well, also.

Paraguay, if they do make it to the finals which I think they will, will once again be looking for Valdez magic.

If it is Uruguay-Paraguay, I expect a borefest.

The best game was Argentina-Uruguay. A brilliant game

Well, I don't think personally it will be as high quality as that game was.

But I think it will just be a standard final.

Hopefully no stupid challenges to destroy the game (type of matches that end 3-0 because one idiot got an early red).

Does anyone know if Forlan will possibly retire from NT after this tournament is over with? Or does he still have thoughts about WCQ matches? Well, if he does retire, Cavani developed during the right time to replace him. But he definitely will be missed given that he's an amazing passer and has those dangerous free kicks that makes every keeper sweat and panic.

Yeah, I think Forlan's talents are underrated. His ability to take free kicks that are good from long ranges, his passing, his dribbling, and much more. Can't believe he isn't more highly valued in terms of club chases.

Will be 0-0, Paraguay's physio, kit-man and Larissa Riquelme will get sent-off then Uruguay's Vato pit-bull/terrier style midfield trio of Perez, Gargano and Arevalo will take control with the angelic figure of Forlan to get himself on the score-sheet.

My prediction:

Uruguay 2-0 Paraguay
Suarez 43'
Forlan 65'

I expect a lot of possesion domination from Uruguay and plenty of set pieces for them. Uruguay will win easily.

Is there any special rivalry between them, being almost-neighbors and both ending with -guay?

Obviously it ain't Arg v Uru, but still?

No rivalry whatsoever. Paraguay is nothing compare with Uruguay in football. Uruguay main rival is Argentina they have played 198 games more than any other 2 nations around the globe and the first international game outside of Great Britain ever played between two nations.
