Quarter Final Fixture 2: Argentina x Uruguay (July 16, 2011)

And bam! Two of the favorites and long time rivals collide. Who would have expected this fixture this early. Certainly not me.

Pretty scared to death anticipating what will happen to that fragile defense. Though still somewhat unconvincing, Uruguay are never to be taken lightly, especially in a knockout competition with a nice squad on paper.

Who will win?

Odds are certainly 50-50

I'm worried Batista might put more midfield than he should in this game to help patch up the holes in that defence. It's going to be a end to end game I feel.

DANGEROUS URUGUAY, I am feared because they are more stable than Argentina.

but best of luck Aregentina

Question*

What has Uruguay done differently since the WC?

I haven't seen any of their COPA games. Are they well prepared?

The only thing that stuck out in my mind when it came to Uruguay (at least during the WC) was the atrocious Uruguayan midfield that made life miserable for Forlan and Suarez to find balls.

Some fun facts:

IN Copa history, Argentina - Uruguay fixture has 13 victories for Argentina and 13 victories for Uruguay, plus 3 draws.

Not to forget that both teams are tied on 14 Copas. (...plus both with 2 WCs and Olympic titles)

A WAR INDEED!

They haven't looked as good as was expected from them. But underestimate Uruguay at your own peril.

Unlike their last eliminatories, where they always meet on the last day and they comfortably play to BOTH benefit from the result...This ONE its an all out, No tomorrow., match !!

This match could either explode with goals, or will be a huge disappointment. Argentina and Uruguay have both missed so many chances they should each have 15 goals at this point so either that continues or the shots start to find the back of the net.

Is it true that if you don't use it, you lose it?

To add to nindra's facts:
Both teams faced each other in the First Final of the Copa and the WC.
Uruguay won both...

this is going to be an awesome match. Cant wait! I think Forlan will shine this time.

Where were you when we lost 1-7?

Uruguay will show what they are made of.

Luis Suarez will show the world what a skilful and warrior player he is

Classic south american football at it best.

I thought Uruguay have looked rather poor, but then so have Argentina (except versus CR).

Hopefully, this will be a great match. I think whatever team wins this game, they could very well go on to win this Copa Ameica this year. I have Uruguay defeating Argentina 2 goals to 1. Suarez and Forlan score for Uruguay, while Argentina has Messi scoring for them, in my opinion.

Speaking of Forlan, what is up with him lately? His finishing has been bad, yesterday he had a sitter but hit the post instead.

Again...the BEST part is that the winner continues...the loser stays in Arggieland !!!

And Messi misses a PK !!!!!!

...which is helped with three assists from Forlan, therefore getting him out of his slump?
