Venezuela Vs. Argentina. World Cup Qualifiers, Round 2

Just one thing: defend like crazy.

In our favour, the game is being played in the freakin' heat of Maracaibo.

anyone has the statistics of the past matches between the two teams? I guess Argentina has won all of them, even no ties.

Argentina return to scene of painful defeat

CARACAS, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Argentina return to the scene of one of their most painful defeats when they face Venezuela for a World Cup qualifier in steamy Maracaibo on Tuesday.

Argentina re-visit the Pachencho Romero stadium only three months after losing 3-0 to Brazil there in the Copa America final, a game they had gone into as favourites hoping to end a run of 14 years without a major title.

The base of the team is the same although Argentina are now without captain Roberto Ayala, who retired following the Brazil game when he scored an own goal.

Both teams made winning starts to their campaigns at the weekend, Argentina beating Chile 2-0 in Buenos Aires and Venezuela pulling off a surprise 1-0 win in Ecuador.

Venezuela, the only South American team which has never played at the World Cup, have lost all 14 previous meetings against Argentina.

However, the hosts have come a long way from the days when they regularly shipped five or six goals and on one occasion were beaten 11-0.

"I think Venezuela have given a ruthless demonstration of our improvement," said coach Richard Paez after the win in Quito on Saturday.

"We didn't just win with luck but with organisation and superiority."

Venezuela's big worry is an ankle injury to midfielder Juan Arango which has left the Real Mallorca player doubtful.

Argentina coach Alfio Basile's dilemma is whether to chose Carlos Tevez or Sergio Aguero as Lionel Messi's partner in attack.

Probable teams:

Venezuela - Renny Vega; Luis Vallenilla, Jose Manuel Rey, Alejandro Cichero, Andres Rouga; Miguel Mea Vitali, Luis Vera, Jorge Rojas, Ricardo Paez; Juan Arango, Giancarlo Maldonado

Argentina: Roberto Abbondanzieri; Javier Zanetti, Martin Demichelis, Gabriel Milito, Gabriel Heinze; Javier Mascherano, Esteban Cambiasso, Maxi Rodriguez, Juan Roman Riquelme; Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez

Referee: Carlos Eugenio Simon (Brazil)

I predict a 3-0 for Argentina here, like last time, but I'll cheer for a 2-0 only.

It was actually a great game. Our defending was very organized. We even created several chances to discount, which we wasted thanx to a right wing midfielder called Guerra, which I would never field again in his life, if I were Páez.

BTW, there is a kid in our squad called Roberto Rosales...who played like the cracks. He isn't Messi, but last night he was not far from that. He was the one creating the venezuelan chances, not Arango (he's not in good form). You'll be hearing more from him. If he keeps playing like that, he'll make it to the Champions' League, mark my words.

I must've watched a different game then.
Your players played not to be embarrassed at home, which you simply can't do if you want to make it to south africa. You can afford to play chicken away but not on the road and at home.

Against this Argentina, yes, you must. There is something called goal difference, you know? Besides, we just scratched last weekend 3 points in the altitude "playing chicken".
