Soccer-Solari becomes eighth coaching victim in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES, May 10 (Reuters) - Argentina's Clausura championship claimed its eighth coaching victim in only 12 rounds of matches on Tuesday when former international Jorge Solari was fired by struggling Almagro.

Solari, the uncle of Real Madrid forward Santiago Solari, had only been in charge for eight games after replacing joint coaches Enrique Hrabina and Juan Amador Sanchez.

The club's spokesman said the directors had made their decision at a meeting on Monday night.

"Solari is not the only one to blame for what is happening at Almagro," club president Rodolfo Motola said. "It's the players who go out onto the pitch and Solari was doing a good job."

Almagro are 19th in the 20-team Clausura championship, played in the second half of the 2004/5 season, and are also 19th in the relegation table which is decided over three years.

The bottom two teams in the relegation standings go down and the next two play-off against second division sides for a place in the first division next season.

In addition to the two coaching victims at Almagro, there have also been changes at Colon, San Lorenzo, Independiente, Huracan-Tres Arroyos, Gimnasia-La Plata and Instituto.

The highest-profile victim was Argentina's 1978 World Cup coach Cesar Luis Menotti, who was sacked by Independiente after only nine games.

Boavista appoint Brito as coach for next season

LISBON, May 16 (Reuters) -

Carlos Brito will take over as Boavista coach next season, the Portuguese Premier League club said on their website on Monday.

Brito, who has agreed a two-year contract with the northern team, replaced Jaime Pacheco who resigned with three games of the current season remaining.

Boavista missed out on a UEFA Cup spot after Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Vitoria Guimaraes.

They remained in sixth place, four points behind Guimaraes with one match left.

The 41-year-old Brito coached Rio Ave for the last three seasons.

Colo Colo coach Espina resigns after Apertura exit

SANTIAGO, June 22 (Reuters) - Colo Colo coach Marcelo Espina has resigned after Chile's most popular club failed to progress beyond the quarter-finals of the Apertura championship.

"I'm stepping aside for the good of the institution," the Argentine told reporters.

Espina took over as coach at the end of last year, immediately after ending his long playing career with the club. However, his new role failed to produce results.

Colo Colo failed to reach the Libertadores Cup group stage in February and were thumped 5-0 on aggregate by modest Huachipato in their Chilean championship quarter-final after losing the second leg 1-0 at home on Saturday.

Maradona's choice Basile poised to become Boca coach

BUENOS AIRES, June 25 (Reuters) - Diego Maradona has made an early mark in his new role as vice-president of Boca Juniors with his choice Alfio Basile virtually accepted as the team's coach.

Basile, Argentina's coach at the 1994 World Cup, is set to be appointed next week on a one-year contract to succeed Jorge Benitez, who was sacked last week after Boca were eliminated from the Libertadores Cup.

The Boca board's approval of Basile is expected once the two parties have settled minor contractual matters, club sources said.

"I see Basile as a coach ... who will give everything for Boca," said Maradona, who was captain of Argentina's team at the 1994 World Cup before being kicked out of the tournament in the U.S. for doping.

"What I want now is to try to give Boca all I've learnt over many years," Maradona told a news conference on Friday at his official presentation as Boca's vice-president for football.

Maradona had two spells at Boca as a player, helping them win the Argentine league title in 1981 before moving to Europe and then rejoining the club after returning home.

Boca, who have won the South American Libertadores Cup three times this century and were beaten in last year's final, were eliminated by Mexico's Guadalajara in the quarter-finals.

The second leg in Buenos Aires last week was abandoned in the 79th minute after a brawl on the pitch sparked crowd violence. Guadalajara had won the first leg 4-0.

Espina is history for Colo Colo as coah now ... but will be for ever in our hearts. I hope he stay in Colo Colo in another place.
Mirko Jozic is back now as coach manager ...
The new company that will manage the club next 30 years "Blanco & Negro" is selling the share in Commerce Broad in the first day grow 30%.
They already pay the debt .... coz they got US$ 50 million ... just with fans money ... now the big company will start to make their investments.
The players salary will grow in 40% and abt 4 o 5 new footballers are coming to the team.
We dont know who will be the new coach, most probably will be Dabrowski who wouldl come with his 200 Clausura team.
We just want to know who will be the next coach. Beside Dabrowki are named: Benitez, Borghi, Pizarro and even Roberto Rojas.

Chano Garrido has been doing very well with boys and Jorge Toro i think is still there.
Im not sure that Ivo Bassay is coach :rollani:
Ur right abt Dabrowsky he didnt made very good last year, but was a very bad season, with the club broken, almost loosing the Monumental .... but the players support him .... i think that the worst for Espina was that ... the players didnt support him .... Cheito Ramirez that gave up after Dabrowsky left .... and stay coz Espina beg him said: Well Espina went the same way he came, and he is the captain.
I would love to have Condor Rojas like goalkeeper coach ... he is in Chile and jobless.

Dabrowski to coach Colo Colo six months after sacking

SANTIAGO, July 1 (Reuters) - Argentine Ricardo Dabrowski was named as the new coach of Colo Colo, Chile's most popular club, on Friday six months after being sacked.

The announcement came as Blanco y Negro (Black and White), which has a 30-year concession to manage the club, officially took control of Colo Colo.

Last week it became the first soccer club in South America to be offered publicly on the stock market.

"We decided last night that Ricardo Dabrowski will be the new coach," said Mirko Jozic, the former Colo Colo coach who is now Blanco y Negro's technical manager. "He's getting another opportunity."

Dabrowski was fired during pre-season training following political in-fighting and replaced by his compatriot and long-serving Colo Colo midfielder Marcelo Espina, who had no previous coaching experience.

Colo Colo failed to make the group stage of the Libertadores Cup and Espina quit last month after a shock quarter-final elimination at the hands of unfashionable Huachipato in the Chilean Apertura championship.

Jozic was coach of Colo Colo in 1991 when they became the only Chilean team to win the Libertadores.

Colo Colo declared bankruptcy at the start of 2002 and Blanco y Negro plans to use the share proceeds to pay off the club's debts and finance a $9 million stadium remodelling.

The fact is that Mirko had made a revolution in Colo Colo.
By the way the shares already grow in 47% and Universidad de Chile wants also sell shares in the stock market
Going back to the coaches:
Mirko is the technical manager
Jaime Pizarro is vice manager
Ricardo Mariano Dabrosky is enchargeg of the first team ... but Mirko and Pizarro are over him.
Daniel Morón, GK coach
Lizardo Garrido, football schools
Marcelo Barticiotto, new players coach :rollani:
Leonardo Veliz young players
In under 19,18,17,15 etc: Juan Gutierrez, Hugo Espinoza, Ruben Martìnez, Lucho Pèrez, Fernando Astengo.
Well, many former players are in Mirko's Team ... most of them are Libertadores Champions...
We are hopefull of their behaviours .... the first he did was cut the contract od German Real, Angel Carreño and Mauricio Donoso (the didn have a good perfomance)... before he said that Matìas Fernandez and Jorge Valdivia are not for sale.
Another new abt Mirko is he wants David Henriquez who akready signed and also wants Nacho Quinteros back.
Some players are with "yellow card" ... they must show that they can be Colo Colo players ...
It seems the black time is over for Colo Colo and we have a white future

U-turn keeps Rivarola at Racing Club

BUENOS AIRES, July 6 (Reuters) - Guillermo Rivarola has changed his mind and is to stay on as coach of Racing Club.
'(Racing general manager) Fernando Marin told me he wanted me to continue as Racing coach,' said Rivarola, who had announced his resignation on Tuesday.

Asked how long his contract would be, the 37-year-old replied: 'In Argentina, it all depends upon results.'

Rivarola took over last October, replacing Argentina's 1978 World Cup goalkeeper Ubaldo Fillol.

Racing Club finished third in the Clausura championship which ended on Sunday but missed out on the chance of a place in next year's Libertadores Cup when they lost their last game 1-0 at home to San Lorenzo.

During the match, fans chanted the name of former coach Reinaldo Merlo, who led Racing to their first domestic title in 35 years in 2001.

Merlo, nicknamed 'Mustard' because of the colour of his dyed hair, is now at Estudiantes, who said on Tuesday he had agreed to stay on as their coach.

Estudiantes finished fourth in the Clausura, having briefly led the competition.

Astrada Resigns

8/29/2005

Uruguayan striker Josemir Lujambio scored a hatrick that allowed Banfield to thrash Argentine glamour club River Plate 4-1, a result that led River’s coach Leonardo Astrada to present his resignation.
River took an early 4th minute lead when captain Marcelo Gallardo scored with a well placed shot from long distance.

Banfield didn’t let the goal affect their game and just seven minutes later Josemir Lujambio equalised with a powerful header after beating Gabriel Loeschbor to the ball, after a Javier Sanguinetti free-kick from the left.

In the 41st minute Banfield took the lead after Leandro Fernandez headed a cross from the right into his own net.

In the second half Banfield looked for more goals, and found two in the 52nd and 57th minute thanks to some outstanding work from Lujambio.

The Uruguayan striker, who was selected in a provisional squad for his countries vital World Cup qualifier against Colombia next week grabbed his second of the match after chipping a ball over Juan Fernandez and drilling the ball home on the volley.

His third came after he latched onto a good ball from Jesus Datolo and beat River goalkeeper Franco Costanzo with a precise shot.

River coach Leonardo Astrada presented his resignation straight after the match and is likely to be replaced by Reinaldo Mostaza Merlo.
