Brazil midfielder Juninho to miss Colombia qualifier

MACEIO, Brazil, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Brazil midfielder Juninho Pernambucano has been ruled out of Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Colombia with an ankle injury.

The Olympique Lyon player appeared to twist his right ankle during Saturday's 5-2 win away to Venezuela in Maracaibo.

"It's a very big disappointment," he told reporters on Monday.

Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira called up Elano of Santos after suffering a fourth midfield casualty for the game.

The world champions are already without Edmilson, who is out of action for six months after undergoing knee surgery, and Gilberto Silva, who has a back injury.

Meanwhile, Kaka is suspended after picking up a second yellow card against Venezuela.

Parreira has yet to confirm who will replace the AC Milan playmaker.

An estimated crowd of 10,000 watched the world champions train at the Rei Pele stadium on Monday. The Alagoas state government, which owns the stadium, did not charge for entry but asked fans to donate one can of powdered milk.

Brazil lead the 10-nation South American World Cup qualifying group with 19 points from nine games. Colombia are eighth win nine points

Alex is a disaster, Adriano should have played from start. Alex is the most overrated player in these boards IMO, we brazilians think he is soooo good because he dominates small teams in the brazilian league, now when he plays in Turkey I thought the interest around him would fall, but he still is there having super Adriano on the bench...

People here actualy thinks he should bench a natural gift, an unique player like Kaka whose speed and vision would probably destroy Colombia in this match, specialy since Ronaldinho Gaucho isn't at his top.

But Alex is a disaster, he can't do anything productive against a good team like colombia. Let this be a fight between Adriano, Kaka, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho GAucho for 3 spots..

Don't see why Alex should get a chanse against these superstars.

PErsonaly I would have

.......Adriano...Ronaldo
Kaka...................Ronaldinho Gaucho
.........Edmilson...Juninho/ze Roberto/Renato
r.carlos.....Juan....Lucio...Cafu/Belletti
..................Dida

With Kaka helping the defense alot, this could work.

Because Ronaldo produced alot by his own, he did have some great moves there and I actualy belived he would end up saving the victory for Brazil until the very last minute. Could Alex dominate completely against Argentina like Ronaldo did?

I don't think he would be even close.

Don't know how you will argue about Alex having done more than Kaka, but even if you manage to talk about all he has won in the brazilian league and libertadores compared to Kakas "only season in Serie A", Kaka is only 22 years old and Alex is 27. Adriano is 22, Alex is 27 years old. There you have the future and the past.

Let us see if Alex will have some great seasons in the turkish league. Maybe he can go up to some middle team in england or Spain. I wouldn't be surprised having him in Real Sociedad, Bolton or Real Betis when he reaches his 30s..

Ofcourse, he would probably flop as soon as he finds himself against such good opposition!
