Argentina is bringing their all star team, and we are bringing local players from unknown clubs. I just hope the "no logic in football rule" comes into effect and we can pull out a victory, especially since we are at home. It looks really bleak for my boys in the blanquiroja.

And that is how I opened this thread ... Bielsa cant even be thinking about this game yet when GOLD is in his mind ... Football in Greece wont end for another 5 to 7 days, granted ARgentina makes it to the final..that means they wont be travelling to the homeland 'till about the 30th, thereabouts to then head to Lima for a game 4 or 5 days later (Sept 4th in Peru) .

Big names back in Argentina squad

BUENOS AIRES, Aug 22 (Reuters) - Former Chelsea team mates Juan Sebastian Veron and Hernan Crespo have been recalled by Argentina for their World Cup qualifier against Peru in Lima on September 4.
Inter Milan's Veron and AC Milan striker Crespo, who missed the Copa America in Peru in July where Argentina reached the final, were picked for last week's friendly international away to Japan but their clubs refused to release them.

Veron last played for Argentina in November in a 1-1 draw away to Colombia in Barranquilla after which he underwent back surgery and missed most of the rest of the season.

Valencia midfielder Pablo Aimar was also named in the squad announced by the Argentine Football Association after missing the Copa America and the Olympic Games through injury.

Coach Marcelo Bielsa is with the Argentine Olympic team at the Athens Games.

Bielsa's senior squad includes a number of players in the Olympic team, notably Carlos Tevez of Boca Juniors, whose hat-trick helped Argentina beat Costa Rica 4-0 on Saturday to reach the semi-finals.

Pablo Cavallero of Celta Vigo is the only goalkeeper in the squad but Bielsa is expected to name at least one more, possibly Leo Franco of Atletico Madrid, who played in the 2-1 win in Japan or the Olympic team's German Lux of River Plate.

Argentina are second in the 10-nation South American World Cup qualifying group with 12 points, one less than leaders Brazil after seven games. Peru are seventh on nine points.

Goalkeeper: Pablo Cavallero (Celta Vigo, Spain)

Defenders: Facundo Quiroga (VfL Wolfsburg, Germany), Fabricio Coloccini (AC Milan, Italy), Roberto Ayala (Valencia, Spain), Gabriel Heinze (Manchester United, England), Walter Samuel (Real Madrid, Spain)

Midfielders: Javier Zanetti, Juan Sebastian Veron (both Inter Milan, Italy), Javier Mascherano (River Plate), Juan Pablo Sorin (Cruzeiro, Brazil), Diego Placente (Bayer Leverkusen, Germany), Pablo Aimar (Valencia), Andres D'Alessandro (Wolfsburg), Lionel Scaloni (Deportivo Coruna, Spain)

Forwards: Carlos Tevez (Boca Juniors), Mauro Rosales (Newell's Old Boys), Cesar Delgado (Cruz Azul, Mexico), Hernan Crespo (AC Milan), Cristian Gonzalez (Inter Milan), Mariano Gonzalez (Palermo, Italy).

Argentina drop Crespo, Veron and Ayala from squad

BUENOS AIRES, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Argentina have surprisingly dropped captain Roberto Ayala, midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron and striker Hernan Crespo from their squad for the World Cup qualifier away to Peru on September 4.

Gabriel Milito, who plays for Real Zaragoza in Spain, replaces Ayala, Nicolas Medina from English club Sunderland will step in for Veron and Milito's brother Diego will replace Crespo.

The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and no reasons were given for the changes to the squad that had been initially named on August 22.

Coach Marcelo Bielsa, who is still to name a second goalkeeper for his squad, is in Greece with the Olympic team, who play Paraguay in the final on Saturday.

Former Chelsea team mates Veron and Crespo missed the Copa America in Peru in July where Argentina reached the final before losing to Brazil on penalties.

Inter Milan's Veron and AC Milan striker Crespo were picked for last week's friendly international away to Japan but their clubs refused to release them.

Veron last played for Argentina in November in a 1-1 draw away to Colombia in Barranquilla after which he had back surgery and missed most of the rest of the season.

Argentine media speculated that another club versus country dispute might have been behind the changes.

Valencia, in particular, were reportedly angry at the inclusion of Ayala in the Olympic squad as an overage player.

On the other hand, Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze, who is also at the Olympics, has been retained in the squad, a decision which is likely to annoy the English premier league club.

Even with the changes, there was still no place in the squad for Javier Saviola.

The Barcelona player, popular with the Argentine public, has been repeatedly overlooked by Bielsa and missed the 2002 World Cup.

He scored a hat-trick when given a rare start in Argentina's opening Copa America match against Ecuador but, just as he seemed set to claim a place, missed most of the rest of the tournament with a nagging hamstring injury.

Argentina are second in the 10-nation South American World Cup qualifying group with 12 points, one less than leaders Brazil after seven games. Peru are seventh on nine points.

Revised squad:

Goalkeeper: Pablo Cavallero (Celta Vigo, Spain)

Defenders: Facundo Quiroga (VfL Wolfsburg, Germany), Fabricio Coloccini (AC Milan, Italy), Gabriel Milito (Real Zaragoza, Spain), Gabriel Heinze (Manchester United, England), Walter Samuel (Real Madrid, Spain)

Midfielders: Javier Zanetti (Inter Milan, Italy), Javier Mascherano (River Plate), Juan Pablo Sorin (Cruzeiro, Brazil), Diego Placente (Bayer Leverkusen, Germany), Pablo Aimar (Valencia), Andres D'Alessandro (Wolfsburg), Lionel Scaloni (Deportivo Coruna, Spain), Nicolas Medina (Sunderland, England)

Forwards: Carlos Tevez (Boca Juniors), Mauro Rosales (Newell's Old Boys), Cesar Delgado (Cruz Azul/Cemeteros, Mexico), Cristian Gonzalez (Inter Milan), Mariano Gonzalez (Palermo, Italy), Diego Milito (Genoa, Italy)

Rebosio is suspended and Pizarro still has his brain damage thing. Villalta from Sporting Cristal (great defender) was in the call but got injured. Autuori will try to cut Argentina's wings for sure.
La Blanquirroja is training in Trujillo two times a day, apparently the players are motivated, but honestly this game doesn't come in the best of times. A victory would be extremely important.

There is not yet a serious source cncerning the line-up, but I'd would go with:

-------------------------Ibańez

-----Galliquio-----Rodríguez--------Acasiete-------Vilchez

------------------Jayo------------Ciurlizza-----------

------Ńol-----------------Palacios--

-----------------------------------------Farfán-----
-----------------------Maestri

Ayala was dropped due to an injury. He was just operated on and will be out for 6 to 8 weeks..Veron and Crespo are having trouble from their resepctive teams not to participate as the season is just getting underway in Europe.
Saviola is switching clubs and believe that Bielsa is simply giving him the space he needs to make the change.

'Pato' completes Argentina squad

BUENOS AIRES, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Argentina have completed their squad for Saturday's World Cup qualifier away to Peru by naming Roberto 'Pato' Abbondanzieri as their second goalkeeper.
The Boca Juniors keeper made his debut at the age of 31 against Paraguay in June and was ever-present in the team which reached the final of the Copa America in July before losing to Brazil on penalties.

'The Duck' has kept his place despite criticism of his performances at the Copa.

Critics felt that coach Marcelo Bielsa might have been tempted to pick Leo Franco of Atletico Madrid, who played in the 2-1 friendly win in Japan on August 18, or the gold medal winning Olympic team's German Lux of River Plate instead.

Argentina are second in the 10-nation South American World Cup qualifying group with 12 points, one less than leaders Brazil after seven games. Peru are seventh on nine points.

Only five players were present on Monday when Argentina began preparations for the game at their training camp in Ezeiza on the outskirts of Buenos Aires.

The rest of the squad were due to assemble later on Tuesday and the team will leave for Lima on Thursday.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Pablo Cavallero (Celta Vigo, Spain), Roberto Abbondanzieri (Boca Juniors)

Defenders: Facundo Quiroga (VfL Wolfsburg, Germany), Fabricio Coloccini (AC Milan, Italy), Gabriel Milito (Real Zaragoza, Spain), Gabriel Heinze (Manchester United, England), Walter Samuel (Real Madrid, Spain)

Midfielders: Javier Zanetti (Inter Milan, Italy), Javier Mascherano (River Plate), Juan Pablo Sorin (Cruzeiro, Brazil), Diego Placente (Bayer Leverkusen, Germany), Pablo Aimar (Valencia, Spain), Andres D'Alessandro (Wolfsburg), Lionel Scaloni (Deportivo Coruna, Spain), Nicolas Medina (Sunderland, England)
