Where did you get that lineup from? Nice to know they can't tell the difference between a Serie A first teamer (Grella) and the Australia-based U23 player that actually came on, Nick Carle

Decent result for us - shame we couldn't hold on for the win - despite missing 10 or 11 first team squad members. If that's close to the best team Venezuela have we should have nothing to worry about in 18 months time if they hold on for 5th in the CONMEBOL qualifiers.

They won't hold on to the 5th spot, trust me, but besides missing a couple of players this was close to their starting line up.

12K people on a wednesday night in troubled Venezuela against an Australian team that preferred not to come, is impressive.

Paez has done a nice job of increasing the interest of football in Venezuela, by far not the most popular sport, far behind baseball and hating the president.

Gràcies Pare, descansi en pau.

Fair enough too. They were very disappointing and extremely fortunate to come away with a point. Our soccer media and FA had been talking them up all week - considering how weak our squad was we were all expecting a loss by a couple of goals at least.

I'd hate to think what the result may have been had Kewell, Viduka, Grella, Emerton, Aloisi, et al been fit.

Cheers!

Probably!

It gets even better... the Australian Soccer Association (ASA) is cracking down on the no-shows and is threatening to invoke FIFA bans left and right (Viduka has already stated he'll retire from international football if this happens) for not turning up for such an 'important' match*.

*To gel, get experience playing CONMEBOL opposition etc

I don't think Venezuela will hold the 5th spot even if i would like to see if they succeed it finally.

If you consider Argentina,Brasil and Paraguay as "sures" (and objectively Chile has a spot too ) then the battle will be great and first of all teams must not lose points in their home.

Looking to the comebacks that Venezuela made against Bolivia and Australia i wonder if this is just luck or ability.

About the Australia's case i believe that a player who denies to play for his national team is just .

But on the other hand Australia is totally different when you have to play against Vanuatu,Tonga and Cook Islands.

He's born on Maracaibo and the Aurstralian coach decided to call him...and he was "shocked" and so happy...and decided to play for Venezuela

He barely did anything if I remember. Everything came from Venezuela's play maker. Bit of a let down on Margiotta who was played up so much.

Maybe he will do better in future matches.

FORZALAZIO!
