Curacao among others are new

What makes it interesting (for me at least) is Curacao's coach is

and their current team includes
-Cuco Martina (FC Twente defender)
-Shelton Martis (in Thailand. How did he make the EPL?! )

but since this is world cup qualifying we're talking about, Kluivert is considering calling up:

- Vurnon Anita - needs FIFA to approve it cos he's already played for Holland

- Darryl Lachman - FC Twente defender - currently banished due to disciplinary reasons, but a standard Eredivisie regular

- Leondro Bacuna - Aston Villa

- Kemy Agustien - Brighton, ex Swansea

- Elroy Room - current Vitesse Arnhem nr 1 goalie

- Guyon Fernandez - NAC Breda, ex Feyenoord

- Charlie Benschop - Fortuna Dusseldorf

Getting any of these names would be huge, especially the premiership names, even if there's a small chance of them saying yes.

With Kluivert there is more chance they will say yes. Before him we only had lulletje rozenwater as coaches who did not have any prestige.

US Virgin Islands won 1-0 away to Barbados yesterday, Jamie Browne with the only goal of the game. Pretty sure this would be considered as an upset win, don't think USVI have ever won a WC qualifier before up until now.

Two games taking place tonight, Nicaragua-Anguilla and St. Kitts & Nevis-Turks and Caicos Islands. Two home wins are largely expected.

Edit: Correction. USVI beat British Virgin Islands twice in 2014 qualifying, their only previous WCQ wins. Still an impressive result as they're almost 30 places below Barbados in the rankings and were away for this game.

Nicaragua 5:0 Anguilla
St. Kitts & Nevis 6:2 Turks & Caicos Islands

Simple wins for the two home sides as expected, although St. Kitts could have had it even more comfortable as they missed a penalty, got a red card, and conceded an own goal. Didn't score their final two goals until the last five minutes either so could have been a lot closer if it wasn't for that late flurry.

Bahamas-Bermuda and Belize-Cayman Islands are the next two games to be played, both on Wednesday evening.

Bahamas 0:5 Bermuda
Belize 0:0 Cayman Islands
US Virgin Islands 0:4 Barbados (Agg 1:4)
British Virgin Islands 2:3 Dominica
Turks & Caicos Islands 2:6 St. Kitts & Nevis (Agg 4:12)

Bermuda all but through to the next round already, Dominica with a good result going into their return as well (both legs of their tie are actually being played in Dominica as BVI's stadium isn't ready to host games yet).

Cayman Islands with an impressive result too considering they're ranked 35 places below their opponents, although could have been a very different story had Belize not failed to convert a 2nd-minute penalty in the game. All to play for then in George Town.

Barbados fought back well to erase the first leg loss and go through on a junior high school ground. St. Kitts repeated their first leg in a game which saw three penalties awarded and Harry Panayiotou of Leicester become the new WCQ top scorer.

Tomorrow will see Curacao make their WCQ debut at home to Montserrat whilst the other four ties' return legs will be played on Sunday.

not WC qualifying but interesting to point out...

Honduras might not even qualify for the Gold Cup this summer after losing 3:1 against French Guiana. OK they got the away goal and come back home so they should progress but they have fallen massively since the World Cup

Yeah, also seen that Pinto (guy who led CRC to the WC quarterfinals last summer) is their coach now and has lost all his games in charge so far.

Hopefully they manage to overturn that, it'd be a shame if they don't. Was actually thinking about going to the USA-Honduras game in Frisco this summer but if it doesn't even happen now, well then scratch that off completely.

Curacao won 2-1 in their first leg against Montserrat. On their team sheet I only noticed Cuco Martina and Daryl Lachmann.

Bermuda and Nicaragua easily advance to the next round. Dominica played a scoreless draw but their win away from home was more than enough to progress. Belize advance past the Cayman Islands on away goals.

Only one more match to play and that's the return leg between Montserrat and Curacao on Tuesday

Using the FIFA Rankings all the seeded teams advanced so far, Curacao is looking to be the only unseeded team to advance.

87th minute goal for Curacao puts them through to the next round and avoids extra time. Fantastic achievement for them and they have a very favorable draw in the next round against Cuba. Cuba is a Gold Cup regular but nothing special and maybe with more Dutch recruitment they can have a good squad to get into the first group stage

First big shock in this round of qualifying with Saint Lucia beating Antigua & Barbuda 3:1 away from home. The only problem is the second leg will also be played in A&T due to Saint Lucia not having a suitable home venue, but Saint Lucia is still credited with the three away goals

Curacao held scoreless at home by Cuba but its a decent result especially if they can score in Havana

Not sure how much of a shock that really was though, A&T really did underperform at the recent Caribbean Cup. That late third goal may well prove to be their undoing, massive result for St. Lucia there.

St. Kitts/Nevis were minutes away from surprising El Salvador before substitute Bonilla saved a draw for the visitors late on. Puerto Rico recorded their first win in 3 years tonight, 1-0 over Granada. Guatemala about to be held at home by Bermuda as well surprisingly, otherwise not many upsets this week so far.

Cuba - Curacao 1:1
Belize - Dominican Rep. 3:0
Guyana - St. Vincent and the Grenadines 4:4
Saint Lucia - Antigua and Barbuda 1:4
Barbados - Aruba 1:0

Historic achievement by Curacao who advance to the 3rd round winning their tie over Cuba on away goals. Cuba had a player sent off in the first half and the match was delayed due to heavy rains but they were able to get it finished. Belize took care of the Dominican Republic fairly easily, 5:1 on aggregate

Crazy match in Guyana and St. Vincent and the Grenadines advance 6:6 on aggregate, scoring four away goals

Antigua and Barbuda managed to turn around a 3:1 deficit by scoring three goals in the final five minutes including two in injury time. Saint Lucia finished the match playing with 9 men, also a bit unfortunate Saint Lucia's "home match" was really in Antigua & Barbuda.

The rest of the matches will be played tomorrow and Monday
