[Europaleague - k.o. stage] Borussia Dortmund vs FC Porto

EUROLEAGUE - knock out stages
Game 1

Thursday 18.02.2016
kick-off: 19:00 CET

vs

source: bvb.com

Two heavyweights of European football will square off in the last 32 of this season's UEFA Europa League when Borussia Dortmund welcome Portuguese outfit FC Porto to Signal Iduna Park on Thursday evening.

some facts:
  • Borussia Dortmund currently occupy tenth place in the UEFA club ranking list, while FC Porto are in 13th.
  • The two clubs are facing each other for the first time in European competition.
  • Both teams failed to find the back of the net in their last two group games: BVB ended their UEFA Europa League group stage in second place following 1-0 defeats away to Russian side FC Krasnodar and Greeks PAOK Saloniki, while FC Porto finished third in their Champions League group having lost the last two matches 2-0 at home to Ukrainians Dynamo Kiev and away to English side Chelsea.
  • Borussia Dortmund have won each of their three home games against Portuguese opposition, scoring ten goals in the process. However, the Black and Yellows have lost on all three of their away trips to Portugal.
  • FC Porto made a statement of intent by beating FC Bayern Munich 3-1 in the first leg of last season's UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, but they then went on to lose the return leg in Munich 6-1.
  • Overall, they have won three, drawn four and lost seven on German soil.
  • Borussia are one of the three teams to have made it from the third qualifying round to the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League. Only Spaniards Athletic Bilbao and French side AS Saint-Etienne have matched this feat.

Tuchel said during the press conference that all players are ready for the match against Porto. Weigl, Sokratis and PEA will most likely return to the first eleven.

Rape us if you will, but please be kind to the women and children.

Expecting a Borussia bloodbath. 4-0 in Dortmund and 3-1 in Porto for a big 7-1 aggregate victory.

To make matters worse, we will be missing our strongest defensive midfielder, Danilo Pereira, and our best full-back, Maxi Pereira. Porto somehow beat Benfica last weekend with an 18 year old inexperienced central defender starting. I expect this one to get real ugly.

There is no way Porto will score only 1 goal against this season's Dortmund in the EL. Plus Porto just like all the Portuguese teams are fantastic EL teams.

I hope Dortmund will progress, but I definitely expect goals on both sides.

This is going to be a true test for us but any home game is a must win, FC Porto's got quality players that will give us a lot of problems

we were only able to score 1 goal against freaking Hannover at the weekend, so sorry Josh, we wont underestimate Porto and i dont expect a high score sheet.

expected line-ups:

cant find any news why Gündogan should not start but this would effect our flow in offense badly

I saw some rumors on goal.com that Gundogan will refuse a contract extension in order to force a move away. I hope that's not one of the reason's he won't be available tonight.

a bit too far-fetched as the financial or contractual situation of a player had an effect on our line-up. goal.com is reproducing any silly rumour on this planet and cannot taken seriously. However i think that Ilkay will leave this summer for one of the big clubs and thats ok for me.

Goal.com is a terrible source but I can tell you that I wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be true. Gundogan has tried to do that before and it almost worked.

Porto's lineup tonight alm:

Casillas
Varela - Layun - Indi - Angel
Neves
Oliveira - Herrera
Marega - Aboubakar - Brahimi

- Varela has never played defense in his life. He is a winger.
- Layun is a LB/RB and is playing CB for the first time all year.
- Angel has played like 3 games this year.
- Oliveira has played even less, actually only 1 game this season.
- Marega is an awful player, just pace and nothing else.
- Andre Andre, our best midfielder, on the bench.
- Corona, our best natural winger, on the bench.
- Danilo Pereira and Maxi Pereira suspended.

This is going to be hilariously embarrassing. I've accepted a mauling already, so I won't be disappointed when it's 3-0 BVB in the 20th minute.

Why would your coach field such a weird starting lineup? Seems to me he has given up before the game even started.

1-0 BVB after 6 minutes. What did I say?

Porto have yet to string 3 passes together after the first 26 minutes of the game. Awesome.

I remember this amazing goal from him in 2013 when he dribbled a defender with his head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFQaFEk2TUQ He may have scored some goals in between but I don't remember any of them besides this one.

Can Dortmund score more goals? 1-0 isn't enough considering that Porto has many absent players and they also have a second leg in Portugal.

Eish that worries me too, at least 1 more goal will be better
