#8 Ilkay Gündogan

German webpages report that Ilkay will sign a new contract with Borussia Dortmund and it will be announced the next days. it is rumoured that he signs an extension for 1-2 additional years.

after his longterm back injury he returned to play regular football again this season. with his passing accuracy of 86% he was one of our majorly performing players, despite still looking to find his old rhythm. For the BVB it would be a good signal to possible new signings fVB could still get some money out of a transfer.

Hi everyone....I'm new to the community and I'm a die hard fan of BVB, I hope I can learn a lot from the other members and also share some of my knowledge with you guys...Now my take on the iIkay Gundogan matter is that a part of me is happy he signed and the other part is not...A one year extension proves that he's set his eyes somewhere (unlike Reus who's fully committed to us, let alone extending the contract where we were having one of our worst season)...So with that said I was hoping for a 2 or 3 year extension from Gundogan. He will surely help us get back up there but we are likely to lose him after that...Die Schwazgelben

Welcome to the Forum Johnnie

think many of the BVB fans share those feelings but i think in todays football business, there is not much space for romantics. Good thing is that whatever club wants to have him next season, will have to pay us some bucks.

Thanks guys...I wonder how Thomas Tuchel will lineup in the midfield when the season begins, with Castro ( thought to be the Gundogan replacement whereas the latter didn't move) and let's put Bender, Jojic, Sahin, Weigl Mkhitaryan in the mix and see...Some will have to settle for the bench

Welcome to the forum, Johnnie. Always great to see new BVB members around here, hope we'll be seeing you often in these parts with us.

I agree with you regarding Gundo, a one year extension doesn't really do much for me but at this point it's better than losing him next year for free as it was always unlikely that we'd be able to get a good fee and someone take him for the wage demands he has after the poor season he's just had. Him extending rather than waiting another year before going to Bayern for free because of his loyalty to the medical staff here does him some good in my books too. Hope it ends up well and we get a good fee at least for him next summer or if he has another bad year, we get him off the books for good anyway. It's not that bad a outcome in the end, let's just see how he gets on with things from here on.

Thanks @Azulgrana, I do plan to stay here for a long time mate, I didn't know about this forum until recently....anyway football wise, normally when managers take over they tend to build for a long term future hence that's why we see players sign 3,4 or 5 year contracts, it would be a huge mistake to build a team around Gundogan or put most of our midfield hopes around him...Most people see us as a feeder club, we groom players and once they become better or world class, they leave and mostly cheap so I hope that can change in future...Looking forward to the new season and hopefully it will be a great one...
